I applied 6 layers of flashing slips. I applied a layer, let it dry 8 to 12 hours, then applied another. I tried to keep the layers fairly thin and tried to cover about 80 percent of the vase with each layer. I bag and usually sprayed with water between each application.
I used Coffman's Yellow Slip on layers 1 and 5. I used Lobster Red Slip on layers 3 and 6. I used Pretty Handy Slip #6 on layers 2 and 4.
Pretty Handy Slip #6 is made by making a slip out of Windsor porcelain. Just dry out the clay and add water. I also added a handful or two of Helmer Kaolin and Tile #6 clay. Really scientific stuff.
Coffman's Yellow Slip comes from Jason Hess. It contains 59.41% Neph Sye, 39.60 EPK, 1.00% Soda Ash, and 4.95% Titanium Dioxide.
Lobster Red Slip is also from Jason Hess. It contains 12.10% Grolleg, 26.40% Tile #6, 19.30% EPK, 12.20% XX Saggar, 30.00% Neph Sye, 4.00% Soda Ash, and 3.00% Bentonite.
I haven't fired any of these before. They will do something in an atmospheric kiln, what,I don't know.
Seen across the North Mast Pond (1702) are, right to left, Covered Slips Nos.7 (1852), 6, 5, 4 (1848) and, with grey roof, 3 (1838) and, far left, the Upper Mast House and Mould Loft (1753-55), Chatham Historic Dockyard, 30 July 2020. The covered slips were highly innovative early 19th Century facilities that enabled the construction of wooden warships under cover, resulting in ships built of the highest quality. No.7 has one of the earliest metal trussed roof designed by Col. Godfrey Green. It was in use until 1966. The 'London' Class pre-Dreadnought battleship HMS Prince of Wales was built in this slip and launched in 1902. The car park is built over the South Mast Pond (1697).

Time slips away at the pet hospital where we got the fatal news that Yogi had inoperable cancer. We took this photo just a few minutes before the vet put Yogi under and we said our last goodbyes.

The nearest building is Number 3 Slip, which has the complex wooden roof structure illustrated. These slips are of unique importance in the development of wide span structures such as were later used by the railways. (Wikipedia)
From 1832 the Navy entered into a period of great technological change with the introduction of both steam and iron to shipbuilding. The first steam vessel built at Chatham was the paddle sloop Phoenix, launched in September 1832. From 1840 numerous trials were carried out with screw propellers, including the construction at Chatham in 1842 of the Bee, a curious small craft built with both paddle wheels and screw propeller. In 1849 the Admiralty suspended construction of all remaining sailing ships and Chatham's first screw frigate, Horatio, was launched a year later.
The last major period of construction of dockyard buildings and structures on the site took place at this time. A new range of covered building slips were constructed between 1838 and 1855, most on land largely reclaimed from the River Medway and at around the same time the yard's two remaining timber dry docks were rebuilt in granite.
My foot slips on a narrow ledge: in that split second, as needles of fear pierce heart and temples, eternity intersects with present time. Thought and action are not different and stone, air, ice, sun, fear and self are one. What is exhilarating is to extend this acute awareness into ordinary moments, experiencing which, in the moment-by-moment, finding themselves at the centre of things, have no need for any secret of true being. In this very breath that we all take now lies the secret that all great teachers try to tell us, “the precision and openness and intelligence of the present.” The purpose of meditation practice is not enlightenment; it is to pay attention even at unextraordinary times, to be of the present, nothing-but-the-present, to bear this mindfulness of now into each event of ordinary life. To be anywhere else is “to paint eyeballs on chaos.” When I watch the blue sky. I must watch the blue sky, not be thinking of sex, danger or the present, for this present - even while I think of it - is gone.

American Canadian Caribbean Line's GRAND MARINER seen here in East River, New York, USA. This vessel is headed upstate on a fall foliage tour. ACCL's vessels are built low enough and narrow enough to get into the canals and able to exit through to the St Lawrence River in Canada or (if chartered), even the Gulf of Mexico. October 2007. I have been gathering sunset pictures for a print project using metal prints. Most of them, like this one, are taken in a field across the street. The colors tonight were nice, but it was sad to watch another weekend slip away.
