Tell me, O Muse, of the man of many devices, who wandered full many ways after he had sacked the sacred citadel of Troy. (Odyssey) Homer
poseidon64.tripod.com/Odyssey.html
Synopses of Book I in The Odyssey.
The poet or narrator “invokes the Muse” asking her to start her story wherever she chooses, of our hero, Odysseus, who has travelled far and wide after the Trojan war. You see, Poseidon, who has kept Odysseus away from his land, Ithaca, is gone. The gods agree it’s time to let him come home. Athena descends to Ithaca, disguised as King Mentes, to talk with Telemachus, Odysseus’ son. The house is full of rowdy young men that are eating him out of house and home under the pretext of courting his mother, Penelope, who has not made up her mind about remarrying. Mentes or Athena predicts Odysseus’ return, prompts Telemachus to give up boyhood, act like a man, present his case to the assembly, and take strong steps to ascertain his father’s whereabouts. When Penelope comes down from her room to tell the bard Phemius to quit singing sad stories of Troy, Telemachus takes the chance to assert himself: he tells her to leave such matters to him, he is the master of the house.
Synopses of Book II
Telemachus hosts the first assembly since his father's abscence twenty years earlier. He's tired of the wasteful and annoying suitors that are eating up his estate and demands they leave. Antinous & Eurymachus (leading suitors) blame poor Penelope herself for their presence, they say if she'd pick one of them for her husband no one would waste her property. The assembly takes the side of the suitors but Telemachus asks for a ship, no action is taken and the assembly is no more. Telemachus prays to Athena (the favorite goddess of the house of Ithaca) and she comes to him in the form of Mentor, one of Odysseus' old friends. He(she) finds a ship, and a few volunteer crew members.
Since moving to Cornwall, I’ve swam at least once a week in rain , hail or shine ! The metal and physical health benefits have really changed my life …it’s an amazing community and I’ve made so many friends, I really wanted to show the joy of sea swimming for one of my uni projects in this image.
Finally with all of our slow pace, we reached the top of the building.
Having zero interest in day time photography can be difficult. Darkness and quiet can be hard to navigate in; every movement makes a noise, every step needs careful thought. It also leads to a lot of jealousy. Photographers who get to enjoy the freedom of the day can get spectacular shots that are difficult to capture at night.
Years ago, I saw a shot some urbex-person had taken of himself right here. Ever since I have wanted to be there myself, to try and better him.
So, it was a huge sense of achievement that washed over me. And what a sight, too- the huge roofs, damaged beyond repair with nature bursting through every seam.
Whilst the cement works have been visited many times, it can't be said that many of them were at 2am. I think these shots at least partly set me apart from everyone else. I hope so.
As always, I'm interested in interacting with photographers on social media... Facebook or Twitter
The best eclipse since 2007 for Australians. It's also the longest eclipse since 2000.
I didn't have the best lens for this, limited to my 70-200 plus the 1.4 extender . However, the show was pretty amazing and aren't we lucky to have clear skies in Brisbane.
The eclipse began at 3.25am (AEST) and entered its darkest phase or "totality" at 5.22am (AEST) when the transformation to a blood-red moon began. Before sunrise the moon wasn't even visible anymore. Eastern States of Australia and New Zealand saw all of totality, but we missed the final partial stages of the eclipse as the moon was setting before it was complete.
This eclipse is quite a long one, with totality lasting 100 minutes.
The next total lunar eclipse is on December 10.
There will be partial solar eclipses on July 1 and November 25. The next total solar eclipse will take place on November 13 2012, in a track running across North Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific and southerly South America

Been a while since I uploaded a landscape here on Flickr so here goes.
This is Brúaráfoss wich is only about 4km away from my family´s summer cottage and since I was there for 3 days and hadn´t photographed it for about 3 years I set out to take some pictures. Think I´ll post 1-2 more from this location later.
Used a ND Filter for the long exposure during daytime, got real lucky with the lighting cause it was very overcast and actually raining when I took this shot but the clouds opened up for a couple of minutes behind me and lit up just the area around me but the area in the far backround was still under cloud cover.
I am not really sure how tall the waterfall is, my best guess is 3-5 meters but the thing is that the water depth is about 8-10 meters and the current is really strong so this is a very sneaky and dangerous place cause if you fall in there, you are pretty much toast. It doesn´t look very dangerous and you can walk right up to the edge, like I did when taking this picture.
Fenway Park is a baseball stadium located in Boston, Massachusetts, less than one mile from Kenmore Square. Since 1912, it has been the ballpark of Major League Baseball's (MLB) Boston Red Sox. While the stadium was built in 1912, it was substantially rebuilt in 1934, and underwent major renovations and modifications in the 21st century. It is the oldest active ballpark in MLB. Because of its age and constrained location in Boston's dense Fenway–Kenmore neighborhood, the park has many quirky features, including "The Triangle", Pesky's Pole, and the Green Monster in left field. It is the fifth-smallest among MLB ballparks by seating capacity, second-smallest by total capacity, and one of nine that cannot accommodate at least 40,000 spectators.
Fenway has hosted the World Series 11 times, with the Red Sox winning six of them and the Boston Braves winning one. Besides baseball games, it has also been the site of many other sporting and cultural events including professional football games for the Boston Redskins, Boston Yanks, and the Boston Patriots; concerts; soccer and hockey games (such as the 2010 NHL Winter Classic); and political and religious campaigns.
On March 7, 2012 (Fenway's centennial year), the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is a landmark at the end of the Boston Irish heritage trail. Former pitcher Bill Lee has called Fenway Park "a shrine". It is a pending Boston Landmark, which will regulate any further changes to the park. The ballpark is considered to be one of the most well-known sports venues in the world and a symbol of Boston.
In 1911, while the Red Sox were still playing on Huntington Avenue Grounds, owner John I. Taylor purchased the land bordered by Brookline Avenue, Jersey Street, Van Ness Street and Lansdowne Street and developed it into a larger baseball stadium known as Fenway Park. Taylor claimed the name Fenway Park came from its location in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, which was partially created late in the nineteenth century by filling in marshland or "fens", to create the Back Bay Fens urban park. However, given that Taylor's family also owned the Fenway Realty Company, the promotional value of the naming at the time has been cited as well.
Like many classic ballparks, Fenway Park was constructed on an asymmetrical block, with consequent asymmetry in its field dimensions. The park was designed by architect James E. McLaughlin, and the General Contractor was the Charles Logue Building Company.
The first game was played April 20, 1912, with mayor John F. Fitzgerald throwing out the first pitch and Boston defeating the New York Highlanders, 7–6 in 11 innings. Newspaper coverage of the opening was overshadowed by continuing coverage of the Titanic sinking five days earlier.
In June 1919, a rally supporting Irish Independence turned out nearly 50,000 supporters to see the President of the Irish Republic, Éamon de Valera, and was allegedly the largest crowd ever in the ballpark.
The park's address was originally 24 Jersey Street. In 1977, the section of Jersey Street nearest the park was renamed Yawkey Way in honor of longtime Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey, and the park's address was 4 Yawkey Way until 2018, when the street's name was reverted to Jersey Street in light of current Red Sox ownership distancing itself from Mr. Yawkey due to his history of racism (the Red Sox were the last team in Major League Baseball to integrate). The address is now 4 Jersey Street.
It’s been a while since our Angeles Crest adventure but we are still talking about it. W9 and I have implored Lou Orr to simply attach us to his roof rack because every seat in his car was taken for a trip up to the Chilao Visitor Center in the San Gabriel Mountains. On this day Jerry drives us. The weather was perfect and the skies were blue.
Jerry and I have hiked many of the trails here over the years before we found birdwatching. The Manzanita Campground was unexplored territory. You might need a parking pass and you need to research where they are sold. To use a camp site you need to pre-pay for that too. W9 has an expression “too hard basket.”
On this day Lou met us and then took the vanguard....soon we were seeing the mountains from a new perspective. This campground would be closed until Spring the very next day. We stop and read the large signs with the rules and regulations. Scratching our heads we pile back into our SUVs. Lou heads up into the elevated campground, stops suddenly, and jumps out with motor running yelling in a loud whisper “quail.” His enthusiasm is contagious. Lewis’s Woodpeckers are flying overhead. The venue is new and exciting. The views are spectacular. We park at a campsite. There is a post tagged with expired permits flapping in the gentle breeze.
Greetings Allured!
Since the new sandman season was out , I was driven by the beauty of the Orpheus story with his wife , a short tragic love story. It inspired me to bring you Eurydice, orpheu's wife , bitten by a snake on her wedding day.

Since I was eleven years old I take photographs. And all my life I´m fascinated by the beauty of trees.
And always when I´m walking through a birch wood the song of the unforgotten
Hildegard Knef (1925 - 2002) comes in my mind.
Since the little sandhill colts are still with us and we are able to photograph them I have had a very special time trying to capture the daily life of these little creatures. I do not believe I have ever had the opportunity to take so many images of a specific subject as I have these little guys but it has truly been awesome. I will miss them when it is time to move on.
Wishing you a lovely and blessed evening !
Since their initial development, the E633 and E652 groups were also thought for the demanding services along the Alpine routes.
Notwithstanding this specification, during the initial production of the E633 locomotives, no remote control system was installed.
Two crews were consequently required in case of double traction.
However, this decision was quick changed, leading to the introduction into service of a second series of locomotives (E633.2) specifically equipped with such kind of equipment.
The same will be later confirmed also on the E652 group.
In this picture you can see my last encounter with an E633 along the Brenner line back in 2016.
E633.226 is leding a westbound tank trains toward Tuscany near Mezzocorona.

The Old Arcade in downtown Cleveland is one of the last buildings of it's kind remaining in the United States. Built in 1890, this Victorian styled architectural gem is a delight to photograph from a seemingly endless variety of vantage points.
Today, the building is home to the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Since the original song was first performed in German nearly 200 years ago, Silent Night or "Stille Nacht! Heil'ge Nacht!" has grown to be sung in over 300 different translations around the world.
Silent Night! Holy Night!
Brought the world gracious light,
Down from heaven's golden height...
By his love, by his might
God our Father us has graced,
As a brother gently embraced
Jesus, all nations on earth.
-from a German to English translation by Bettina Klein
Since retiring 4 years ago, i've barely picked up my camera except for the occasional trip somewhere. Well last night i finally had the motivation and time to try my hand at star trails again. i had a bit of a time trying to remember how to do some stuff with my camera, but eventually it came back to me.
i’ve wanted to do a star trail shot at our new home near martintown for quite a while - last night conditions were perfect for it - not much moon, clear skies.
the final result is the combination of 471 shots from 10pm to 2:18am taken in our back yard.
(manual, 30 second exposures, ISO 1250, f/5.0, set to infinity, some light painting on the chairs)
you might remember me from my old profile

Since I met Miguel :) I always thought he would most likely like to read when he learned. He is very observant, curious, he loves to always listen carefully to all the stories of the family and their ancestors ... and yes, he likes to read. What I did not expect is that it would also be a flip of the Pokemon Manga. But yes, he loves to read backwards stories with unpronounceable names :))
Yesterday we went to buy a couple of books in a large well-known bookstore. I was able to take just a couple of photos before they told me it was not allowed. But a minute later, a shop assistant approached and whispered to me: "I am very sorry for that, I hope you had enough time to take the picture of your son reading because it is a nice memory to capture"
Since 24 June 2001, it has been the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem that have maintained the spiritual life of the Abbey of the Mont Saint-Michel. A mixed and urban fraternity, there are five brothers and seven sisters living at the abbey. Dressed in blue, monks and nuns do not live in isolation – as some communities do – but continue to interact with the outside world. The welcoming of pilgrims and visitors forms part of their mission.

Chrysler Turbine Cars were automobiles powered by gas turbine engines that the Chrysler Corporation assembled in a small plant in Detroit, Michigan, USA in 1963, for use in the only consumer test of gas turbine-powered cars. It was the high point of Chrysler's decades-long project to build a practical turbine-powered car.
