The final major activity for MyPI was held on May 20 with a disaster simulation. The scenario focused on what the MyPI cohort had studied and practiced over the last three session which included incident command (IC), light search and rescue, triage and medical operations tasking. We had 11 adult/youth volunteers and five inflatable torsos for survivors/victims. The class began with a briefing for all players (scenario, rules of play, boundary, goals and objectives, focus on safety). Phil Goering and Stan Draper from the Hickman Fire Department assisted with medical operations and observed search and rescue. We were able to run the simulation twice with MyPI teens having different roles and changing up the survivor/victim “injuries”. Following the simulation, the MyPI cohort and volunteers celebrated with a MyPI cake. We also used this time to debrief and hear from the “real world” experts with the Hickman Fire Department. MyPI teens who completed all the requirements were recognized and able to take home their MyPI backpacks.
