Laurel Kincl (with ungloved palms up), an occupational safety researcher at Oregon State University, shows fishermen Charles Cromer (in black and white hat), Kien Jones (in other cap) and Jason Jones (far right) how to lift instructor Kevin Buch, a diving and small boat safety officer with OSU, during a simulation aboard a boat in Newport. The exercise was part of a first-aid training for fishermen that was funded by Oregon Sea Grant and the Eder Family Fund. Buch taught it with help from Angee Doerr, a marine fisheries specialist with Oregon Sea Grant.
