I am about to jump headlong into processing a bunch of Vegas glitz pictures via HDR. But before diving into that neon debauchery I thought I would balance it out with some images based on simplicity.

Simplicity 6195, copyright 1965. A very Jackie O/Mary Tyler Moore kind of dress. I really like the sleek lines.

Simplicity 5517; ©1973; Western Style Shirt or Shirt-Jacket, Hip-Hugger Mini-Skirt and Hip-Hugger Pants: The top-stitched shirt or shirt jacket with front and back yokes has shirt collar, front band button closing, long set-in sleeves gathered to buttoned cuffs and slits in side seams (can be made with contrasting yoke). The hip-hugger pants and mini-skirt are made to be worn 1" below normal waistline. Both garments have front zipper, band, side front pockets and optional purchased belt slipped through self fabric carriers. The pants have back yoke.

Uncut Pattern Complete With Instruction Sheet

Vintage patterns are one of my favorite things to collect (and maybe I should sell them, since I'm just getting them to scan the covers, and I don't know what I'll ever actually sew.) Misses' pants, Bought at an antique mall in Blue Island, IL.

Simplicity 9417; ©1971; Simple-To-Sew Misses' Super Jiffy Pants in Two Lengths and Tunic: The sleeveless tunic with top-stitched keyhole neckline fastened with loop and button has back zipper and optional flat woven braid trim, purchased applique and purchased belt. The long or short pants have elastic waistline casing. The short pants have optional flat woven braid trim.

For 2nd weeks in a row I didn't stay true to my original ideas for the weekly challenge submission. And I blame myself for that.

Last week, I had idea of a very fun shot for the theme "looking through a window", instead submitted a pale shot due to the busy work commitment.

Again this week the submssion was not quite true to the original idea. Nevertheless, I still like them both because of simplicity.

Both shots were taken within couple of hours, in close proximity. Boardwalk and ice skating ring, you hardly associate them all together.

I made the wrap version, with the short sleeves and the belt.

The fabric is a cotton voile from Westminster Fibers, in a colorway that is ideal for someone with three black and white dogs.

I thought the fabric would be too sheer to wear without a slip or lining but it turns it's absolutely fine without, which is great. This a perfect summer dress.

My first Simplicity 2451 skirt - made from a skirt I purchased for $1 from the school fete's second-hand clothes stall

I love the bias-cut panel in the back of the skirt.

This is my best example of simplicity. I really like the color of the shoes and the white background, and how the shoes are a little dirty and used. To create contrast my image, i lowered the exposure and contrast. I sharped the image so you can see the creases and the texture of the laces. I added a little saturation to give it more color. The vibe i was trying to create, was a childhood nostalgic, movie vibe.

I really liked the idea of this pattern. It's nice to have something that's easy to care for, made of fleece but doesn't look like you just walked out of the gym. The pattern has 4 jacket versions and a (rather hideous) vest option. I've never sewn with fleece before so I bought some less expensive mint colored fleece and a slightly more expensive fleece in a deep plum shade. My plan was to sew my second choice jacket designs with the green to get my feet wet with fleece, before cutting into the purple fabric.

I don't hate the end result but it's definitely not as nicely designed as I would have liked. My biggest issues are that it's just plain fussy to put on, the collar is a single, unfaced layer and rolls if it's not laying just so, the little accent bow does the same thing. The inner facings are all over the place. You really have to put it on and check that everything is in order instead of just tossing the jacket on and going.

My other issue is that the cross back measurement is too wide for my taste, by probably a full 2"/5cm. Jackets are generally cut like this to give room for layering, but I'm a hussy and wear mostly slim fitting clothing. On me, the shoulder seams fall off my shoulders and the look is a little sloppy.

The other thing to be aware of, which has more to do with my crappy skills than the pattern, is you really need to know which seams will be unfinished in the final product so you don’t cut those edges like you were a few sheets to the wind before you started. Fleece isn’t very forgiving in that sense.

I may still sew the other version of this jacket that I like a little better. If I do, I'll narrow the front and back pieces, mid shoulder (so I don't have to monkey with the fit of the collar or sleeves) and I may find a better way to keep the inner facings in line. I'm not an expert enough seamstress to go too crazy with mods but I think the pattern is salvageable.

Another take at Simplicity 2596, this time, I made View B.

The fabric is a very thin fabric with dots of fabric tufts on it. Is this known as Swiss Dots?

I wore it to work for casual Friday and nobody had any idea I made it myself (if yes, they were polite not to ask me about it)! Excuse the creases, it is afterall, after a day's wear :).
