Fixing lunch in no time at all. Hummus spread on wholegrain bread, topped with tomato and cucumber slices. Yummy.

The world is more malleable than you think and it's waiting for you to hammer it into shape. It's like the surface of a lake. If you throw a stone, small waves will spread everywhere... We're here to put a dent in the Universe. Otherwise, why else even be here?
Just a shot of rock and clouds, but I was sweating when I took this on a hike at a place I call Clam Butte. The clouds were not pasted into the photo; they were really like this. I hope the lines and colors are pleasing to the eye.
Clam Butte is a high oval-shaped butte on the northern side of Buckskin Gulch near the confluence of the gulch and the Paria River. It's about 300x500m in size, but with a large apron of white rock around it. When I started hiking, I aimed for the white rocks and found them very irregular and difficult to get around. Once I got up above these white-colored layers of sandstone the hiking got easier. I circumnavigated the entire butte on May 2, 2021 and climbed up on top, getting great views in all directions around sunset.
The flat summit of Clam Butte, far above the white layer, is a thick deposit of loose conglomerate with rounded boulders up to football size. That surprised me. Having seen geological pipes at the red "Trophy" layer (see below), I'm wondering if the conglomerate was extruded upward from below. Or perhaps it is a remnant of later deposits above the red layer (Carmel formation?), most of which eroded away from the surrounding land.
I also found some conglomerate two miles north at "Squid Butte." Another remnant a mile to the southeast of Clam ("Slug Butte") looks very difficult to reach above the cliffs of Paria River, but is probably photogenic for some brave explorer. It most likely also has a summit of conglomerate.
If I could fly I'd come to see you wherever you are
I would lie down beside you while you're sleeping
and with simplicity ... I'd spend a little time
just a little time with you
With simplicity, I'd listen to your breath
listen to your heart beat
I would be so near, we could push away the fear
I'd come to see all of your tears
I'd come to see all of your smiles
with butterfly eyes ...
And you would know who I am
and I would know who you are
(elisa - simplicity)
Okay, seriously.. I cannot focus on my studying.. 30 minutes break doing something completely unrelated to my work..
PS : This is for you :)
I went out in the rising tide again to capture this shot. Got stuck in mud several times on the way through the low tide. I put this into black and white to give it a more dramatic look and kept it fairly dark on purpose.
The world is really out of order but we have to keep calm. Simplicity is the best way to be now.

So uncomplicated and full of simplicity and that is what draws me to it. Why can't humans be more like nature?

The humble Leggo block, step on one of these suckers without shoes in the middle of the night and you certainly know about it. The words that are used cannot be repeated here....
I have a small votive holder made of special cedar I bought in Scotland which gives off a gentle scent when lit. Simplicity. Warmth. Slowing down. Breathe it in.
I saw this spot as I passed the other day and I found the opportunity today to take some shots using the 10 stop ND.

Another simple more traditional angle from this location at the end of the run. The warm evening light illuminates Montana Rail Link 'night gas' train with SD70ACes 4406 and 4408 (both built new for the road in Apr. 2014) as they work the terminal at Pipeline in this view looking east from the private crossing at MP 29.4 on the 4th Sub just east of Thompson Falls. They have just brought a trainload of refined petroleum products 111 miles from Missoula via the 4th and 10th Subs and after swapping loads for empties here the Phillips66 facility they will start back east.
These railfan favorite gas trains are the only trains on this end of the railroad anymore that are guaranteed to run with blue power. Strictly an intra-MRL operation, these trains came into being in 1995 when a gap was created in the 40 yr old and 531 mile long Yellowstone Pipeline when the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe chose not to renew the pipeline company's lease of 21 miles of right of way across their Flathead Indian Reservation.
