I love the beach colours in this easy watercolour background - cool blues and sandy beiges. They take me back to when I liked these colours as a child. They say smells take you back in time, but I think colours do too and for me, this adds to the calm these colours evoke.

Colour is one of the key design principles for me. It might surprise you, because if you've been around here for a while then you'll know I love muted colours, but just because a colour palette is muted doesn't mean it isn't impactful. Muted colours speak to me, stop me scrolling and give me that emotional response I desire from creativity. And it is that emotional connection that I'm always seeking out. With Winter around the corner, icy colours especially blues are a given. However, by adding a touch of warmth with the kraft card then you have a contrast between the icy blues. Also, anything which includes kraft nods to the handmade, homely feel. So those colours paired with the white for simplicity tell their own story to me.

As I was sat out in my garden the other day I noticed subtle changes such as the poppy leaves dying back with just the seed pod heads bobbing around. In fact, there are more seed heads than flowers now in my garden! We are also drawing the curtains earlier too. All those signs that the season is about to change. Are you looking forward to sweater weather and cobwebs glistening in a morning dew? Or would you rather have more summer?

I used alcohol inks to make the background for this card that I'm entering in the latest SSS Flickr challenge, Love is in the Air. I added hearts cut with the SSS mini hearts die, one of my all time favorite dies.

One inexpensive embossing folder, a couple of pieces of thick card and a few Distress Oxide ink pads and you have a card set with a matching folder to gift at Christmas! I don't know about you, but as a card maker, I often get asked by friends and family for cards. A simple gift such as this card set would set someone up with a few card-giving occasions! Using the Simon Says Stamp Peony Bundle embossing folder, I made three cards, a general friendship card, a birthday card, and a sympathy card and the folder to keep them in. Another entry for the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge! I paired a big Impression Obsessions stamp with the SSS painted thanks die. And tons of distress ink!!

I've seen this watercolour wash style a lot and like the loose organic feel. This card was particularly inspired by Camilla Damsbo Brix who has a lovely loose, expressive style I'm drawn to. I found this quite tricky - loose is something I struggle with but I'm glad I had a go!
