When you are asked, "What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say 'Washington, DC'", what would you say?
Washington Monument?
The Capitol?

Memorials?

Smithsonial Institute?
Well I think I would say Traffic Chaos. There are so many diversions and roadblocks that even if you have lived your entire life there in the neighborhood you have a good chance of getting lost. I was lost, driving and I was in front of a road block barricade and an officer next to it. I asked him for directions and he kindly gave me the same. The directions involved crossing a one-way street. Unbeknowest to that officer, there was another one in my way, right in the middle of the road, parked car with lights on asking me to turn around. Thanks to the One way, I couldnt get back to the same place again to ask to be rerouted (I should have taken the $10.99 GPS offer). Bottom line? Lets say, I saw the entire DC driving around in a couple of hours, unintentionally :D

Philadelphia, PA; the sign was built as a scaffold sign in 1999 and installed in downtown Baltimore:

Then moved here in 2010 and used as a billboard sign next to the interstate.
I loved this old sign that we saw at the beginning of our walk to Padley Gorge, the Longshaw Estate and Froggatt Edge!
This was our first visit to the Peak District, and we were lucky enough to have a dry and sunny weekend. It was beautiful!
This sign still stands along 71 South just north of Columbus, Ohio. The Leaf Restaurant was a well known landmark to Ohio motorists and operated for several decades at 6022 State Route 95 in Mount Gilead. A Subway restaurant now occupies the site. The Subway cashier told me that The Leaf closed its doors about 4 years ago (2007).
This signpost by the railway line at Corfe Castle had me puzzled. Why is Scotland only 1 mile away? I thought it should be more like 400 miles away.
Baelz Equipment Limited manufactured a wide range of handling equipment for oil and petroleum products. The company occupied the Chubb building in Wolverhampton from some time after 1938 until 1978. The sign on the wall at the corner of Chubb Street is written over the details of a previous occupier
The defunct Cassman Machine Shop sits along Main St. Its a very typical smal town dealership building since repurposed and now left to rot. The urbanization continues but with a hitch, America is running out of farmers. There aren't enough coming up the ranks to replace what we are losing.

Hemmingsen Rexall Drug sign in Marshall, Michigan. I knew about this sign for a while so I was glad to finally see it in person, what a beauty!
If you leave no dust trail you can go as fast as possible.
These signs are at the start of a new road that leads to residential construction.
A sign warning dogs aren't allowed on the premises.

I saw this sign in the toilet at work. Somebody has tried to correct the mistake. It made me chuckle though... and nearly cry.
I cannot believe that this has become my most interesting photo! I'm not entirely sure what to make of that!
Another (poor quality) shot from the archives. I believe this one was taken along a back road near Eden, NC.
Interesting directional sign from atop a former military outpost overlooking Israel, and the Jordanian and Syrian borders. The outpost is now defunct and has a coffee shop.
The Nam Theun 2 is a 1070 MW hydropower plant on Nam Theun river in Laos PDR. 95% of the power produced by the plant is exported to Thailand and the rest are consumed locally. Revenues from the power plant are used by the government of Lao PDR to help reduce poverty in the country. The Power Plant started its commercial operations in 2010.

What the hoohaw is up with this billboard? I'll have to check out the reverse side when I drive home... maybe it will shed some light on the mystery.
This sign is in Madison, Wisconsin on East Washington Avenue, a little bit before Route 30.

Ok, sadly, the second part of the sign has gone up... it's an ad for diamonds. "She says she wants a vacuum for christmas. She's lying." Hey, I don't want no stinking diamonds.
