We were not able to see Table Mountain for five days in Cape Town because of fog and rain. On the first clear day we took the cable car to the summit. Signal Hill is part of the same mountain range and gets its name for obvious reasons.

As part of an upgrade to the Chase Line railway route between Walsall, Cannock and Rugeley, many of the local stations were provided with feature artworks to foster a collective sense of identity. Signal Hill's oil fields have been pumping oil since the 1920's, and pumping cash into the coffers of the tiny southern California city of Signal Hill, completelty surrounded by the sprawling city of Long Beach. The upper portions of the 300-plus foot hill are still pumping oil, while sharing the land with gated communities and expensive homes. There are no homes close to this area on the Northern slope, but these flowers have 'mysteriously' spread across the hillside.
There is a serious ravine behind the signal poles. This shows the specially engineered pole foundations being constructed next to the ravine.
Erected in February 1999 and commemorated during the Jeux du CANADA GAMES in March, this 17 meter high (52 ft) 360 year old magnificent CEDAR TREE represents OVER a 1000 YEARS of Newfoundland and Labrador history! Your Heritage Tree also represents Canadian Unity as it was nourished and donated from British Columbia soil and brought right across Canada by Newfoundlanders!(Thanks Dan Preshyon and Tracey Bruce of Western Forest Products of British Columbia!)
Carved images on the Tree commemorate our own 50 years as a Province of Canada(1949), John Cabot's 500 years of discovery(1497), the official 1000 year anniversary of the VIKINGS' ENCAMPMENT in L'Anse aux Meadows, and even the earliest Maritime Archaic Indians of thousands of years ago!
