Cheese-D-Lox in Borough Park, Brooklyn is an appetizing store that specializes in #lox 🐟, cream cheese, and #bagels but also sells nuts, candies and dried fruit. They are known for catering #kosher affairs. We love their #handpainted #signage with its original #font and the basket holding the herring and dried fruits as well as the wheel of #cheese . Old signs galore adorn Parisian Florist!
"The wonderful French florist in Hollywood who delivered the roses to Marilyn's grave every week for Joe DiMaggio for over 20 years. Parisian Florist has been at the same location at 7528 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood since 1924. Louis and Max Alhanati purchased the business in 1960 and it remains family owned today. Celebrities from Lucille Ball to Elizabeth Taylor to Rock Hudson ordered regularly from Parisian. Louis’ designs were the only arrangements Joe DiMaggio allowed to be at Marilyn's memorial services."

UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 28, 2018: The signage came down today. Parisian Florist is moving to a new location, but my understanding is the signage is going to the Museum of Neon Art in Glendale.
Clinton, TN -- hadn't been in this neck of the woods for some time, but January's big storm caused us to change our southbound route and so once again we found ourselves in Clinton on a beautiful winter morning. So happy to see this old sign still standing! (The restaurant is long gone but the sign remains.)

There are not too many pharmacies that still use the word "DRUGS" in their name although much of their business is still derived from the sale of drugs (legally of course)! Damn, that's one helluva drink...I looked up the recipe for both drinks and a regular sized offering (9-10oz), has 3 oz of alcohol...now if you make that a 100 oz concoction, under normal circumstances it would have around 30 oz of spirits...They say 1 liter (33.814 oz.) of alcohol can kill a man...(I'm not quite sure who "they" are)...so my guess is, there's plenty of fillers in these puppies...just sayin...cough up the car keys when ordering these, PLEASE!!!...

Pitkin Grocery Store in East New York, Brooklyn is no longer in business. We loved this neighborhood #bodega with its worn facade and #handpainted #signage. Bodegas like this are often the only place locals can buy groceries because their neighborhood lacks big grocery stores. This #barber shop not only had an amazing old #sign and #handpainted gold leaf lettering in the window but also had stenciled #barbershop tools including scissors, razors and brushes along the top of the roll gate. We also loved all the old #signage in the windows showing the variety of #hair cuts and styles they specialized in. 35 mm film photo is from 2004 and appears in our book "Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York". This was one of many Greenpoint, Brooklyn #furriers that catered to the large group of Polish immigrants who made the neighborhood the center of #NYC 's Polish community. By 1990, eighty percent of the area's residents were #Polish but that number has drastically been reduced since #Greenpoint has become gentrified. The Infamous Shack in #Brooklyn was an independent #music shop specializing in Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae and Blues. On a poster in the window was written "No. 1 Mom & Pop Store Rockin' Since 1970." We loved all of the handwritten #signs like this one in the window and the posters taking up every inch of space. We also loved the #handpaintedsign with the tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. 🍳🍔 Empire Diner is one of the last free-standing diners left in Manhattan and is located inside a 1946 Fodero Dining Car. It closed in 2015, after a second failed attempt to revive it.
