Freedman's Bakery, an icon on the Jersey Shore, closed it's doors for good in January, after 64 years in business. Opening in 1950, it quickly made a name for itself, thanks to their renowned rye bread, and keiser rolls. At it's height, Freedman's had 42 stores along the Jersey Shore. This was their last remaining bakery. No word as to what will happen to this beautiful googie neon sign. An end of an era.

While the building dates back to the 1940s, the liquor store was founded in 1968 and is still operating; see below in the comments for my photo of the street scene there.
The people in charge of maintaining this marquee are doing an admirable job; it's in great shape. The theatre has been closed for decades; only the marquee remains. It is on the US National Register of Historic Places.

Aldo's Coffee Shop in Williamsburg is no longer in business. We loved its four #vintage vacuform #signs, especially the ones with the #burger and the #hero sandwich. We are not sure why it closed but imagine it may have something to do with the widespread gentrification and rent increase this #Brooklyn neighborhood has undergone in the past few years. #storefront #disappearingfaceofnewyork #coffeeshop #coffee #sign #signage #signgeeks

It was on Sepulveda Blvd.....it's all gone now. (There'd been a fire there not too long before I took this photograph.) I think there's a condo tower in its place.
I took this back in 2014 as were heading into Pasadena on Route 66 but never got around to posting it -- but I just learned the windmill, which was reactivated last year, has fallen down. Time to get this "before" shot up! (see comments for article about the damage)
Back in the day, this was a Van de Kamp's (it opened in 1967), but it's been a Denny's for more than 25 years. Yay to Denny's for keeping the windmill.

The building was one of the tallest structures on the Upper West Side when Henry Grimm, who operated a grocery on the ground floor and lived with his family above the saloon, had it built.
