I am not myself today. I do not know who I am, but I am not me. Or maybe I am me, and this is the only time I have ever been me.
I have been thinking today and I wonder how many people in the world are important. And I know, everyone is important, but what I think I mean is how many people are known - how many names do we know. Not people we know, but names we know. Like Einstein and Shostakovich and Colin Dexter. I have so many names in my head, but compared to how many people there are alive, that cannot be many names.
Did you know that King George V had a dragon tattoo on his arm? Saint George was said to have slain a dragon.
The 12/31/2018 theme for Macro Mondays is "Redux 2018"), meaning that I could choose any of the themes from 2018 and give it another try; and I have chosen Back in the Day. This is a ski sharpener, which was used to sharpen the steel edges on my hickory skis, back in the 1950s, back in the days before plastic.
You can see the whole tool in the first comment.
Excerpt from www.citywindsor.ca/residents/historyofwindsor/Documents/M...:
The Lazurek Series: Just after WW I, Theodore “Fred” Lazurek emigrated from Romania with his parents who, along with many others from the region, sought the employment opportunities Ford City could offer. Fred followed in his father’s footsteps and became a photographer. Enthralled and inspired by its cultural diversity, Fred saw Ford City as a true community where everyone knew and cared about each other. Working from his home studio on Drouillard Road, he captured the essence of post-WW II life in East Windsor. A free spirit, unconcerned with fame or fortune, Fred was obsessed with recording images taking delight in commonplace scenes like a group of boys hanging out at the temple Theatre, or the neighbourhood knife sharpener on his daily rounds. His photos inspired revitalization project artists to create these vignettes of life on Drouillard Road, as seen through Fred Lazurek’s lens.

Our Lego Desktop! The eraser bits are actually bits from an Lego eraser, and the lamp really lights up!
Also here's a larger scale sharpener, to show the grinding . mechanism
These Lego Desktop items are our second entry for our Iron Builder. against Tyler Clites and Nannan Zhang!
Also, you can follow us on our new Facebook page :)
In the future we'll be posting non-lego art there as well as little extras that wouldn't otherwise make it onto our Flickr
I have been helping Nyaguok with her final project for math class. The assignment is to make an enlarged model of some object. We have been having so much fun putting together this sharp'ner entirely out of cardboard ten times the size of the original. We used metrics instead of English rule for the measurement (for easier math). All that is left to do is paint it silver.
My wife bought me a new robot for my desk, this one is amazing; he sharpens all my pencils beautifully, keeps the shavings in his tummy and doesn't need batteries.
So good to have a practical robotic pal around the place rather than a showy, needy, skateboarding one.
Welcome to my desk little fella!
Small pencil sharpeners, approx. 44mm. The gold and red ones are marked 'Germany', the green one with Mintex Halo BBA pressed into the top is marked 'Foreign' but they are almost certainly from the same source. The one on the left has several differences, doors and radiator being the most obvious, so the casting was reworked or replaced at some point.
A Shoe Pencil Sharpener!! :-)
Loving my new pencils & sharpener!! Had to photograph them!! :-))
Wishing Everyone A Happy Sunday!!! :-)

Violin pencil sharpener :)
I've been addicted to Clint Mansell's Requiem for a Dream. I don't know why some people call it Mozart's Summer Overture. It's a great song. I usually hear it used in game trailers. It was also used for the trailer of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers". Listen to it here.
(I think the song is also known as "Lux Aeterna")

Meanwhile, at Dunder Mifflin...
"Okay, everyone. Since George is our new hire,* I was going to have this meeting just with him, but I thought the entire team could benefit."
"Is that giant Prison Mike screen the 'Trade Show Display' line item you wouldn't explain on the budget?"
"Darryl, as I did explain, it is a motivational tool for the company."
"You said it was for trade shows."
"And we can use it at trade shows."
"You're going to stick that giant Prison Mike at our trade show booth??"
"Pam, I think we're getting off topic and if you all will let me continue, I think we'll see that this exhibit was money well spent."
"The forklift needs repair! You said that money went to the trade show, which just turns out to be YOU with a purple bandana on your head!"
"Darryl! I have to make decisions that are best for the company, and you will see why this is so effective if you let me continue. Now, George, the office space can be a welcome gathering of friends, or like a prison yard. George, do you want to work in a prison yard?"
"... ... ... No?"
"That's right. None of us do. And why is that?"
"Well, I guess-"
"George, don't guess. I'll explain. Or, rather, let me introduce you to someone who has experienced the terror of prison. Let me introduce you to... Prison Mike."
"I was clocked out for my lunch break. Is my lunch break gone or can I eat after Prison Mike is done?"
"*ahem*! Yo, yo, like yo! I be Prison Mike! Yo, like did you stole my pencil sharpener, yo?? It was on my desk! Yo, I'll sharpen a pencil and SHANK you with it, yo!"
"..."
"George, is that kind of animalistic violence what you want to see here at the office?"
"... No??"
"That's right. Take it from Prison Mike, George. He's seen the inside. Here, we share our pencil sharpeners. Capiche?"
"Um, yes! Yes, understood. Capiched." What have I gotten myself into? This office is crazy! This guy's a clown!

Another of my "Downsizing" images. A project that maybe should have long finished but keeping me sane during lockdown. Another set-up on my shooting table. High key lighting with the figures and the pencils positioned on a slightly raised up chopping board placed on a box.
From fairies at the bottom of your garden to 'the borrowers' we are obsessed with the fantasy of little people in a full-sized world. My 'downsizing' project, using model railway figures, food and everyday objects, is merely an extension of those thoughts.

I received this pseudo-camera pencil sharpener and a couple of new pencils from my Son and Daughter-In-Law for Fathers Day last week and just got around to taking a snap of it today. I couldn't resist doing a bit of selective color to the image for Slider Sunday. Happy HSS

Our Daily Challenge: March 8: Sharp
I had a lot of different ideas for this challenge and ended up playing with various compositions of this ... I chose this one for the clarity and light on the sharpener... and it was also the composition I liked the best of those I took. I hope everyone is having a great week so far!
After messing around with this and then uploading it and adding it to the group, I see a few shots of sharpened pencils...LOL!! Its funny though with a few of them, not any look remotely alike.. just another reason why I love photography...so much room for individual interpretation...
I'll have to make my commenting rounds in the morning... I know I'm behind a bit and I'm sorry but I will do my best to get caught up!!
I had the perfect pencil
It was not a snack you see
Yet it rolled onto the floor
Into the mouth of Kathy Dee.

Photo taken for the September 5, 2022 Macro Mondays theme: school supplies.
This handpainted wooden pencil sharpener is less than 2" tall, and the Internet generally seems to believe that he's from the 1950s, made in China, and meant to represent the Zodiac sign Leo. He was a rummage sale find that I couldn't resist.
He's a little sad at the moment, because the shiny fancy modern pencils behind him come pre-sharpened, but he knows his turn will come, eventually.
