Used quite a few of the Nik Collection tools on this, so the psd was over 1/2 a gig...
The overall structure was in camera, just tweaked it a lot to bring out the details.

Macro MADEMOISELLE: FRIDAY: Flowers theme & Beauty theme
It took me a while to find one, I knew I'd have one in the house somewhere!. For the Looking close...on Friday group theme 'pencil sharpener' have a great day and weekend folks ;0)
The pencil sharpener is a 19th century invention. The first patent (France, number 2444) is in the name of the French mathematician Bernard Lassimone and dates from 1828. The first American pencil sharpener was patented by Walter K. Foster of Bangor in 1855

There's nothing fancy about this X-Acto electric pencil sharpener, but it does it's job quickly and efficiently.
I own this sharpener since I was a student... it is old but it never betrays me! 😉
I captured this image by using 2X magnification. I hope that you will like the result.
Stay safe and healthy, dear friends and have a nice Friday night. 🙋♂️

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 25th of March is “pencil sharpener”. Luckily this was an easy theme for me, as I am an artist amongst many other things, so I always have an array of pencils and sharpeners within easy reach. So, here we have one of my silver pencil sharpeners hedged in by sixteen of my Derwent studio pencils. I hope you like my choice for the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.
When I was twelve, I entered a drawing competition, and I won my first set of Derwent pencils: a tin case of 36. As a designer and illustrator as well as a photographer, over the years I have acquired several different sets of Derwents for different purposes, including my beloved Derwent Studio Pencil set of 72 which I use predominantly these days for designing clothes.
Derwent, or the Derwent Cumberland Pencil Company, is a manufacturer of pencils and other stationery. The business began in 1832 in Cumberland under the name of Banks, Son & Co. The company was bought by Acco UK and became a brand of their product range.

Not used as much as my alternative which is a razor blade - that can sharpen everything from graphite sticks to charcoal, pastels and even erasers! But the graphite shavings the traditional pencil sharpener produces are useful for spreading on bigger graphite drawings!
Have a happy weekend, and stay safe! 😊

I'm not sure if getting sharpened is great fun for a pencil but... I think it depends on the pencil's character. I assume there are pencils out there that prefer to be blunt and others that insist on being razor sharp and therefore see their daily workout in the sharpener as an absolute necessity. Why should pencils be any different from us humans who use them, after all... ;)
I've been after this idea of photographing the inside of a pencil sharpener for quite a while, I think I've tried to make it work on three or four occasions, not all of them "Stationery"-related MM themes. So far, there always had been something off, odd focusing, unsatisfying sharpness, weird POV... you name it, I've unsuccessfully tried it.
Now this photo isn't perfect, either, the framing is still a little weird, but I think this time it works as an image; I like the bokeh, and there also is enough sharpness in the right places. I think what finally made it work was the addition of a slim pencil. Strange as it seems, until now I had never even thought about adding a pencil, although a pencil is a natural (and as clear as mud) addition to a sharpener... While it would have made sense to add the pencil where it belongs, right in the sharpener, it wouldn't have worked as an image, at least not as I had envisioned it. So I stuck the tiny point of a very slim pencil into the small opening next to the blade on the sharpener's top, just so it would be visible when focusing on the inside of the hole where the pencil normally goes in.
As for the colours, they looked different in every single image. I've illuminated the scene with two LEDs and the usual makeshift colour filter suspects: red from the left, green from the right, and blue from the semi-transparent snack can lid that I'd placed behind the sharpener. There also was some sunshine from the living room window involved, and I'd used my small LED flashlight, set to spotlight, to illuminate the pencil point. I held the flashlight as far away from the setup as possible because otherwise, the highlights would have been blown out.
HMM, Everyone, and have a nice spring/autumn week ahead!
Looking Close... on Friday: Pencil Sharpener
The pencil sharpener is at the back of the hull. It is part of a beautiful collection of pencil sharpeners shaped as miniature antique objects. I suspect we might see more for today's theme; I have already spotted one!
The background is a painting by my mother. It was actually not meant to be a real painting, it was just a piece of wood on which she finished the paint of her palette with random strokes of paintbrush, but I love it. She really is a wonderful painter.
One of my pencils and pencil sharpeners. Cropped to a 1:1 ratio.
Maybe view large, and thank you for your favourites. :)
A possible shot for Macro Mondays 'school supplies' theme. I have a couple of others to upload a decide between.
... Two times two.
Two brand new unsharpened pencils and two pencil sharpeners. Texture added in iPiccy.
I shall make a huge effort to get out for a walk tomorrow, to get some new photos - hopefully.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :)
For the theme #Fasteners, I found my subject literally at my fingertips. I use pencils and paper to make notes before I post photos. The inside of the little plastic pencil sharpener has the two blades fixed in place with small screws. I did this in color and monochrome and decided I liked the monochrome better. I will post and link the color version as well. Great theme! Hope you enjoy -- HMM!.
