I have it on good authority that these are based on a Wolseley and were almost certainly made by DCMT. I have seen them illustrated in an advert for Bailey's Agencies Ltd published in 'Games & Toys' July 1948 which gives a length of 3.25 inches.
I already had two of these, both possibly repainted, and both had lost their tops. However, one of those is the (assumed later) version with plastic wheels: www.flickr.com/photos/adrianz-toyz/52267774725
The linked photo also shows a German item which may have been the inspiration for this one.
Project 365 - Day 31
Tomorrow is the big day. I'm going back to school. I'm so nervous. At least I have this cute little robot pencil sharpener. Who says you can't have fun school supplies in college?
These seem to be quite durable in the office environment. The Panasonic electric pencil sharpener with Auto Stop and illuminated indicator; and the Wilson Jones 'Hummer' model 3-hole punch. Each of these has survived decades of daily office use. Either one purchased for personal use might become heirlooms if your kids are into that!
Pencil sharpener in the shape of a car, marked 'Germany'. I'm not sure about the age of this, but it could be pre-Second World War.
This is a small item, overall length approx. 44mm.
I have this in gold and also a green version which appears to be a promotional item for Mintex.

My original idea for today for one photo a day. Izzy had run out of her loo roll inner tubes to play with, so she got a new one. But before she was allowed to play with it I did!
Tried various angles for this and this is the one I preferred and that Graham said was the best.
After I'd taken it I still wasn't that happy with the pencil sharpener, so looked for something else.
