We all walk attached to a shadow. Some to a very long one...

while I was posting this picture I was thinking about a suitable title.... which than came from one of my favorite songs from The Killers.....
But soon we discover that no place will satisfy us, and no one person, no group of friends, can meet our needs. The oppressive boredom we had hoped to escape is lodged firmly within us, and we are in danger of becoming the winnowed chaff of Psalm 1, “driven away by the wind.” If we become the straw, we have no hope of gold.

Walking around the township of Bright with my friend, Dan, and found an old house to experiment with certain shadow and light. I noticed Dan in this doorway and noticed that the light seemed to hit his outline, so I managed to take this shot. Happy for any feedback. Cheers.
my shadow cast from a deep sunset casting set in my front room where an old pipe for some inexplicable reason is leaned against a wall - the figures on the shelf (top) are 'ed the duck' and 'mo' from the 3 stooges!!!
Take a turn and see his smile
Made of nothing but loneliness
Just take a walk and be a friend
To the shadow man...
'Shadow lifting' is a very popular term used in many internet photography forums such as dpreview. The usefulness of this is hotly debated as well.
If you are not familiar with the term this is what it means.
In high contrast situations when you have set your exposure to preserve highlights (setting sun in this case) you end up with some very dark areas. In the past you couldn't do much with these dark areas because if you wanted to make these areas bright in Photoshop then all you got was a noisy mess. The situation is not that bad now. Exmor sensor made by Sony and used mainly by Sony and Nikon, is best in this regard. See the next picture.
The other sides of me that are rarely seen but are often thought about, and goals of what I want to be always walk with me wherever I go.
A week ago today, my father was involved in a double write-off motor accident which could easily have taken him from us. 2 days later, my older son, Alex, was admitted to hospital for major spinal surgery, only to be sent home the next day because of a shortage of beds in Intensive Care. Yesterday, Shadow's already failing health took a dramatic turn for the worse. He had a major seizure in the morning and two more later in the day, leaving us no choice but to have him put to sleep.
Possibly the worst week of my life.
Shadow has been part of our family since Alex and Nick were 9 and 7. They are now both young men.
He was a playmate for Nick and a loyal guardian for Alex. He was also our baby. We will all miss him more than words can ever say.
Goodbye, old friend.
