“The Tree of the Worlds” or" the Tree of Life” - the names given in Scandinavian mythology to the giant ash tree encompassing all worlds from humans to gods in the ancient Norse view of the universe.

This magnificent Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) catching up the warmth of the setting sun stands up for this challenge, I’d think. The Cotswold Way, Lansdown near Bath. BANES, England, UK.

"Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses the glory of being alone."

~ Paul Tillich

Though there were a number of much smaller trees around it, this one tall tree -- standing apart, its branches lifting proudly up into the winter sky -- was alone and seemed to express the very essence of solitude.

This was shot back in 2018 during our flooding which broke apart many docks here on the lake.

Some beautiful winter sunsets happening over Cardiff Bay, Wales.

A lovely walk through the woods in the Ashridge Estate, Hertfordshire, today. Hoping to see some deer but they were elusive. This is a blend of two images, one of trees with ICM and the other with the sunburst peeking through trees.

Sunday evening Lake Superior sunset at a beach near Eagle Harbor. I didn't realize at this time that I would be witnessing the Northern Lights within a couple hours.

...but, maybe it's better that way.

Loss. It is one of the constants of the universe. Each loss diminishes us. Sometimes, it's time for that departure. Other times, we feel ripped away. But, in each case, we all long for one more moment; to live in that moment for as long as the situation will permit. Say the things we need to say. When we know it's "goodbye," sometimes it's easier. That's not to say the sudden is more or less impactful. We're often not permitted to say "goodbye," but when you recognize you have that opportunity, seize it. You never know when the last time will be the ultimate case.

The sun setting from Highland Farms in Cornish today.

An evening walk up my local Moorfoot Hills. Some thistles bathing in the evening light just as the sun sets.

Pangkor is a small island, in the district of Perak, off the west coast of Malaysia and there are several smaller islands nearby. This sunset was shot from the beach at Teluk Nipah, on the western side of Pangkor.

In the old days everyone used to walk around, tip their hat to one another, and say: "how DOO you do?" Very formal. Very British. The question begged the reply, "How do I do what?"

Grammatically, "how are you?" would be better.

And then the Americans invented the telephone along with the word "hello" to let it be known that there was someone online. It was a short word used as a preface to quickly get to the point on why they were calling. The similar-sounding "haallooo" was already taken. The word was used to clear out the cobwebs in the hollow pipes that made up a ship's intercom system and ready a ship's crew to listen up. Unfortunately, to an American audience haalloo sounded like a blowhard captain about to bark an order to his underlings.

No, the crisper "hello" fit the American ear best. The word stuck and soon spread to the rest of the world.

Taken at the height of the California Wildfires. Quite a few eerie-looking sunsets!

An awesome sunset. Unfortunatrely my location was not the best

Shot back in 2011 a stones through from where I live

Another shot on Clarke Rd. The sun would be getting lower to the trees in the distance. There is no room to pull over on this road, so all the shots are usually done from the car. A bit of a pity really.

Happy Fence Friday

Shot from the Illinois shoreline of the Mississippi River near sunset, this image shows the bridge crossing over to Keokuk. I've shot this area a few times when the river was at flood stage, so it was interesting to see what the river bannks looked like when the water had receded as much as it had.

The Keokuk-Hamilton bridge carries U.S. Route 136 across the Mississippi River. It was built in 1985.

Watching the sun set over Africa's Amboseli National Park is like something out of The Lion King

The twin spires of a cathedral silhouetted against the evening skies...

The sign is probably neither here nor there but I'm counting it in my 100 signs.

I love this building and have probably photographed too many times.

One of those brief moments when the setting sun breaks through the cloud and lights up a little scene of the countryside.

This was taken about 80 yards from Stone House Hotel, near Hawes.

There was another chap who pulled up his 4x4 and grabbed a few images but it was 4 minutes max and then all gone - one of those magic moments at about 8:30pm.

I needed to nail it so used my D750 with a Nikon 24-70mm lens rather than the iPhone !!

Golden hour kisses the skies over the Mediterranean sea, as seen from a plane on my way to Rome, Italy.

Shot with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor AFS DX 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G lens, and processed in GIMP, with some tweaks in Photoscape.

There she goes! The sun dips into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Lima, Peru.

Out of few sun photos I took on the weekend, I liked this one. It looked like the thin & weak branches were holding the big fireball!

Steveston Historic Fishing Village is an ever so romantic fishing village, that is situated in Richmond BC, on the Mighty Fraser River

Canada

Definitely one of British Columbia's best kept secrets.

Anyone who knows me, knows of my huge love for tugs,

and this grand ole lady, the KU'ULAKAI - 1944 Miki Tug is by far, my all time favourite.

The low on the horizon setting sun, casts a beautiful tangerine glow that further romances Steveston Harbour.

(Ku'ulakai meaning: Hawaiian Fishing God of Fisherman)

Her history: as per online sources: (Unverified)

Built:1944

Length: 111.9

Gross Tonnage: 301

Used as a Tugboat all along the West Coast of BC

Ku'ulakai is said to be the only intact Miki tug in Canadian waters.

Builder: Northeast Shipbuilding, Quincy Massachusetts, USA

According to onlines sources, this tug was built as a wooden Mikki US Army Tug - LT465, and used by the U.S. navy during the Second World War to tow damaged ships from the Pacific back for repair.

Online information also reports that later on in life, she was used by drug runners in the South Pacific and that in 1988 was seized by the Canadian Coast Guard for smuggling drugs out of China.

She was originally named: Lloyd B. Gore, decommissioned & sold 1946.
