Daisy Nook Country Park

(1 in a multiple picture set)

For several years when our kids were in school, we would rent a housekeeping apartment at the beach in San Clemente and spend a week there just before they started the school year. We'd walk the beach after supper, watching the sun go down. This evening the color was different — a purple-red tint. I looked out to see these three surfers waiting for their last ride of the day, silhouetted by the setting sun. No retouching has been done. This was just the way it was on that night in 1984.

The sun quietly sinks below the mountains creating a warm glow on a cold Winter day.

I always wonder how sunsets manage to remain memorable perpetually..Probably it's not just about how spectacular it is but about fond memories it brings back...

For this last week of the year, I had hoped we could have a photo of our upcoming meet up with long time flickr friends. Our playday is Saturday in the middle of Ocala National Forest.

A bit risky for posting our final photo of the year. Hopefully we will be far removed from cell towers. Although service would be grand!

It has been quit a year for our little family. Never in a million years had we thought we'd land in Florida.

But so far, other than losing our boy; we are finding the little island that we now call home to be a comfortable fit.

Looking forward to new adventures in The Sunshine State. I hope the coming year brings us all good news and blessings in abundance.

I was waiting for a train when I noticed a dark silhouette in the distance. He kind of spooked me and I think I spooked him as well because he kept turning and looking behind him probably wondering what I was photographing.

The medieval fortress of St. Mihovil was erected by The Venetian Republic in the 13th century on the island of Ugljan.

The fortress is located on the same hill (265 m) above the town of Preko. It's in a ruined state today. Here, a view towards the coast - Vir and island Pag.

On 26th October 2019 a fire that had been burning west of the Wallamba River at Minimbah, just west of Tuncurry, fanned by strong north westerly winds, send showers of embers across the river to ignite drought impacted Cabbage Palm forest on the Tuncurry side of the river.

The situation quickly became critical as RFS crews battled the rapidly advancing fire which began to threaten homes in Taree and South Streets and all along the back of Tuncurry.

One residence that was soon under threat was the historic 1878 built John Wright House.

In 1982 John Wright House, the former home of Tuncurry founder, John Wright, was sold to Susan and Brendon Gogarty. Susan was a great great grand-daughter of John Wright and the couple moved the house from the Tuncurry foreshore onto Wright land at the end of South Street Tuncurry, re-erecting it among magnificent Livistona australis and Eucalyptus grandis trees.

The idyllic setting soon revealed itself to be a massive fire risk and several major fires came close over the years.

When the Bourke Family purchased the home circa 2012 they made certain sufficient firefighting gear was onsite and it was this capability which saved John Wright House from burning down on the evening of 26th October 2019.

The availability of bore water proved the biggest help in keeping the flames at bay, although a shed did burn down on the property.

John Wright House is set about 20 metres off to the the right of the trees in this image and is intentionally not shown in this photo as it is a private home.

This image was taken a week after the fire as the Tuncurry and Minimbah fires continued to flare and produce copious amounts of smoke for many days after. The heavy shrouds of smoke on this day made a very large full moon look impressive red on the horizon.

Locals and tourists alike pile up onto these rocks on Hampi island to watch the sun set each night over the immense boulders and temples scattered across the land. After the sun went down, the stars came up and the real magic began.
