Long exposure, Ekängen

Like the simplicity of this shot -- the light was amazing

As one of my contacts, Beverley, pointed out, photographers can be an odd bunch, and seem to stake out their claims to places, resenting anyone intruding upon their own wonderful discoveries for the camera, or they can be the opposite, friendly, and sharing a wealth of knowledge with others, hoping to make the beauty they see a reality for others.

Under the blue roof in this pic, a man with a camera stands shrouded in shadow, his one mission to capture the perfect sunset. This is what he was looking at, so honestly, I can't blame him for not wanting to budge from his perch! I was okay with not being out at the tip of the dock because I could capture the silhouettes, too, and I'd lay you odds that my pics are prettier than his, if only by virtue of the wonderful contrast between the sky, water and those dock silhouettes.

I thought of lightening this up more, so you could see the man, but when I did, the whole scene kind of faded away, so I used mostly just contrast and highlighting to perk it up a bit. I actually viewed it much darker, and the colors popped off the screen! It did have that kind of effect. Working from my work computer, I have to guestimate the lightness because it is set a bit differently from my home computer, which is probably more accurate. I usually lighten it up a lot to make the effect more accurate, so if this seems a little too dark, let me know and I'll correct it. I thought it might look a little richer with deeper tones. Since it was one of the most colorful skies I've seen in ages, I thought that was appropriate.

Sunset beach load over the Emerald Coast of Lower Alabama (LA). Seven jumpers have formed what we call a BFR - Big F-in' Round - over the Florabama. This shot was taken by me flying camera and into the sunset facing west; the development of Gulf shores can be seen below the jumpers, but due to altitude and perspective, we are actually falling well east of the Orange Beach pass!!

Rockaway Beach is a shoreline area of the Pacific Ocean in the southern portion of Pacifica, California, United States, approximately 7 miles (11 km) south of the city of San Francisco. It is located within a gently curving embayment with direct access via Rockaway Beach Avenue and providing easy access to Highway 1. ( Wikipedia )

A small beach, but worth to visit, I still love to stay there anytime. If you travel and take California Highway 1, no matter northbound or southbound, just turn in to the lovely town, Rockaway Beach, it seems quite peaceful and elegant, you will find out its seascape is really amazing, which even more than your expectance.

A person, who values the beauty of nature and ambient in the world, for richer and happier than those, who did not notices this.

Many thanks to all who have taken the time to award, comment on/or select this image as a personal favourite. Cheers!

When we planned our trip to the Big Sur coastline my hope was to see the wonderfuly ragged coastline of Point Lobos state preserve. At the time of planning I didn’t know that this reserve does not allow visitors to stay past sunset. So, I didn’t get a perfect sunset shot that day because I had to leave early in order to get out before the gates closed. It forced me to rethink my shooting strategy for the locationas I initially planned to shoot towards the unset with the stunning coastline as foreground interest but that’s usually only possible close to sunset or past sunset. Leaving before sunset meant that shooting into the sun will provide a scene with horrible glare and contrast. So, I decided to shoot with the golden light of the golden hour. I found this cove close to the pit and the setting sun provided wonderful light to make the details of the coastline come alive.

A repeat visit to Titterstone Clee Hill in Shropshire to photograph a sunset dipping over the majestic landscape that borders Wales to the west and the English counties of Cheshire to the north, Staffordshire to the east, Worcestershire to the southeast, and Herefordshire to the south.

The plan was simple photograph and capture the late evening sunset colours in the clouds as the setting sun dipped below the horizon, which would hopefully set the sky a wash of oranges, pinks and purples. Once again my trusty Pentax K1 camera was matched with the Samyang 24 mm F1.4 and the diminutive Pentax Smc - DA 35 mm F2.4 AL (which is fast becoming one of my favourite lenses)

If that wasn't enough I also wanted to make best use of my time on top of the hill to photograph the landscape and radomes in the blue hour; an opportunity to photograph the early evening landscape, in the cool blues using the DJI Mavic Air 2 drone to do some aerial photography, revealing details and textures that easily go amiss when from standard perspective.

Waiting around for a few hours more I then planned on filming myself photographing the night sky and milky way, by doing some astrophotography over the tops of the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) radomes using my Pentax K1 and duo of lenses, the Samyang 24 mm F1.4 and the Pentax Smc - DA 35 mm F2.4 AL . However producing the video content for this was a challenge and the absence of light made it impossible to really show you how I had my scene composed and my camera setup. So unfortunately the video and story telling was limited in this part, but still, the resulting images taken on the night once I got home and processed them, produced some very pleasing wide field landscape astrophotography photographs. I hope you like them as much as I do.

Magnificent view - Belevidre, Moorea. Moorea is near Tahiti and is a part of French Polynesia's Windward Islands. Arthur Frommer, the travel expert/writer declared Moorea to be the most beautiful island in the world (and I would not disagree). There is a single road around the island and as you drive it every corner seems to yield a picture postcard view. There is a barrier reef which encircles the island. Charles Darwin, standing on a peak on Tahiti viewed Moorea and used the view to form his theory of the development of coral atoll islands.

With low hanging cloud and rain in the distance, I was hoping the setting sun would peek out from underneath and light it all up in a glorious rendition of color. Well, that didn't happen and the fisherman in this scene had no luck either. Either way, you won't catch anything if you're not out trying.
