Only David Nelson and his creative team could make a casual-chic affaire go glam without a tie. The eleventh annual No Tie Dinner & Dessert Party for AIDS Services of Dallas, presented by Purple Foundation, went Bond-chic at The Frontiers of Flight Museum on April 9 with the theme You Only Live Twice to celebrate the non-profit’s long history of providing a second chance at life for its residents. The event raised over $150,000 and is still collecting donations. No Tie Chair David Nelson and Honorary Chairs Angel and Marie Reyes greeted the 1,500 guests who indulged in lavish cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, chocolates and pies from some of the city’s finest eateries, such as Apples and Onions, Dallas Affaires Cake Co, Daisy Cakes, Uncle Willie’s Pies, and Frosted Art Bakery & Studio, among many others, and the signature Reyka Double Bond cocktail proved popular at the bars. Upon arrival, one might have caught a glimpse of the stunning Deanna Cahill poised on top of a cupcake platform dressed in her Bond-girl finest of all black leather. She and husband Rob Cahill and Alika Ray produced a surprise dance performance by the Dallas Cowboy R&B dance team set to Madonna’s Die Another Day. Another surprise was the announcement of Carol Hatton as the recipient of the Sheila Dolezal Humanitarian Award for her volunteerism and community support and the newly-retired Dennis Kershner as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for his long-term support as ASD Chairman of the Board for seven years and No Tie Chair for ten years. Attendees included: ASD President/CEO Don Maison, ASD Chairman of the Board Don Neubauer, Purple Foundation’s Blake Baker, Chris Huffstutler, Sara Fangmeyer and Dylan Orrell, Sterling Deason O’Donnell, Patricia Deason, Tricia Sims, Merlene Phillips, and Tony Fielding, among others. The mission of AIDS Services of Dallas (ASD) is to create and strengthen healthy communities through the delivery of quality, affordable, service-enriched housing for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS who are economically disadvantaged and to coordinate a broad range of direct services and programs. ASD’s mission includes advocacy, education, and the development of affordable housing options and community development opportunities, both for its residents living with HIV/AIDS, and for economically disadvantaged people. Services Week is the UK government’s annual event series to celebrate what we have achieved so far and take a look at the work ahead of us. As part of the cross-government event series, more than 85 events took place in more than a dozen locations across England and Scotland.
Between 3 to 7 February, local government, central government, devolved government, arm’s length bodies and parts of the NHS ran events. Thousands of public servants participated, either in-person or remotely.

Services make up the majority of the UK economy. But the Brexit debate has focused much more on how to ensure continuity of frictionless trade in goods, and far less on the needs of the very diverse and fragmented services sector.
At this event, our panel discussed how the Government has taken account of the interests of the services sector in Brexit. They also considered how to ensure the UK services sector is best placed to benefit from both the UK’s future relationship with the EU and the opportunities that Brexit offers.
Panellists:
Adam Minns, Executive Director, Commercial Broadcasters Association
Giles Derrington, Associate Director of Policy, techUK
Emma Dowden, COO, Burges Salmon LLP
Elisa Kerr, Managing Director, State Street
The discussion was chaired by Joe Owen, Programme Director at the Institute for Government.
This event is kindly supported by Burges Salmon LLP

SET 1 – Gordon Food Service (former OfficeMax), Union Ave
Continuing further down this rearmost aisle of the store, this shot shows us that the corner window isn’t the only one that Gordon left intact – indeed, the one along the back wall (facing Union Avenue) is still present as well, although this one (unfortunately) has been more or less covered up by the hanging banners GFS is using as its décor package (warehouse chains never have been much for décor, lol, although Sam’s certainly has been trying harder in that regard in recent years – surprisingly). Unlike the corner window, this one used to be considerably more exposed, and while I suppose the natural light is still technically flowing into the salesfloor, it seems a bit muted in comparison, what with that banner and the high shelves blocking it.
And speaking of those shelves – notice how they’re just selling regular loaves of bread, no different than what you’d find at Walmart! Sam’s and Costco do this as well, of course, although theirs are typically in bundles of two loaves. So from the perspective of a consumer who only needs one loaf, obviously Gordon’s option here is preferable, but is it really any cheaper than Walmart? A quick search suggests GFS has Nature’s Own Butter Bread at $3.49 vs. Walmart’s $3.42, which is fairly comparable… while GFS has Sara Lee Butter Bread at $2.99 to Walmart’s $3.18. Interesting, GFS wins that one! Sara Lee Artesano is $3.99 at Gordon vs. $3.46 at Walmart, and Sara Lee Classic White is $3.79 at Gordon vs. $2.50 at Walmart. So prices are really all over the place…

I have had the tea service in San Francisco at several venues. This one was a disappointment. The sandwiches were on bread that was too thick. I found a beef sandwich odd for a tea. The scones were a wee bit too dense.

I really don't trust the BMW main dealer, so I thought I'd have a quick look over the BMW before it goes in for its final inclusive service on Monday. Technically it's not due an oil change yet, as it's on the long-life 20k service regime. At over 3 years old it's only had one oil change in it's life, which I'm not too happy about. If they refuse to do it on Monday I'm going to get it done anyway (at my local independent) and then do it every 10k after that.
My investigations this morning highlighted some other short-comings of the BMW inclusive service plan too. See next pic...
