I was 10 years old when AstroWorld closed down, but I was a bit younger than that on my last visit. At the time, I was terrified of large rides, and for that reason I never did ride the Serial Thriller. I loved watching it, though; I always thought it was a visually impressive coaster as a kid, and since I never got to experience it, I now have a strong desire to track down another Vekoma SLC and ride it. I currently have my sights set on the Gauntlet at Magic Springs in Arkansas.
The fact that I was so young at the time these pictures were taken also explains why the photography is so awful. I like to think I've improved a bit since then.
Is it useful? Maybe. I have a couple of existing projects that would benefit from a rotary knob, but not enough code-space is left to add encoder handling. Serial comms is already working, so this is the simpler way to make it work.
