I had the 8-bit grayscale HP Scanjet IIp flatbed scanner (link shows optional automatic document feeder lid I didn't have/want) that never really got used for anything good. It had a green scanner light, though, and felt like the future. The thing on the 'desktop' computer (vs. 'tower,' which back then meant 'vertical,' which later became the standard) is a weird pen mouse with a steel ball under it that worked terribly, and simply served as decoration.
I remember loving this desk setup, but also really wanting to have my own place, and the freedom to stay up all night and play on my computer. Now I have that, and I kind of long to go back to these simpler times with my parents, and my fascination with all of these amazing new games and technologies, trading floppy discs - 4-10 per game often - with my friend. He had a huge 3-ring binder full of plastic sleeves full of games, and another huge one of dot-matrix printouts of game codes and cheats. I also had a Sega Genesis and a tiny TV behind me here on a shelf.
My room is still there, and always available when I visit, but nothing seen here remains. The PC we gave to a friend. The scanner I think we sold. The desk is long gone, replaced by something built in that faces the other way. No idea where the Panasonic printer ended up. Even the wallpaper and border are different now, and the bed, out of frame to the left is a smaller, taller one. I can never really go back, save in my memories.
Well, I can always fire up Dosbox, and relive the games. That's a good consolation prize :)
In 1903, a pair of Dutch-style windmills were built at the extreme western end of Golden Gate Park. They pumped water, irrigating the planted forests, gardens and grassy meadows as well as filling a series of ponds and lakes throughout the large metropolitan park. The north windmill has been restored to its original appearance and is adjacent to a flower garden, a gift of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. These are planted with tulip bulbs for winter display and other flowers in appropriate seasons.

Ruby Newman was commissioned by the San Francisco Art Commission and Recreation and Parks Department to oversee the 1977-1984 restoration of the decorative aspects of this 1914 carrousel. There are 62 menagerie animals and 4 chariots. The Decorative Housing which included: 54 pictorial panels and 18 carved masks were also lovely restored. She designed the color palette and hand painted the entire carrousel. These pieces were in an extremely depressed state with signs of major dry rot and worn surfaces throughout.

A landscaping masterpiece, it's very hard to believe that this lake was built from nothing. Finished in 1893, this quintessential feature of Golden Gate Park was a featured part of the 1894 Midwinter Fair. The lake itself forms a ring around Strawberry Hill, with three smaller islands in the lake for wildlife habitation. Two bridges connect the outside shore of the lake to Strawberry Hill. At the northwest corner of Stow Lake, boat rentals are available at the front entrance, bicycles and surreys at the back.

Tierradentro is an archaeological site where a pre-Incan culture buried their dead in elaborately decorated underground tombs. Carved statues and gold and silver artifacts accompanied the deceased on their final journey. Unfortunately, only a fraction of the burial sites were spared from grave robbers who looted the tombs.
