Looking through my journals and photos, I realized the image shown here was captured exactly 32 years ago. Photography is a remarkable invention allowing us a portal into the past. This particular event was a happy one. Viewing it today brought a smile to my face.

This 1979 image was captured while sailing up the Brazilian coast with a Yashica ELECTRO 35CC. The 35mm negative was scanned with a HP Scanjet G4050 and restored with multiple Photoshop operations.

First light in the tropical forests of Petén are sensational. Gradually, as the dawn approaches scattered calls from forest birds increase to a crescendo. There is a cool mist and an eerie feeling as the day cycles towards sunrise. The still ruins seem mysterious and dramatic.

Inside of an abandoned car with the windows busted out. I should've thought to get the model information, but these cars have been there for as long as I can remember and I doubt they're going anywhere. The tires are even dug into the ground.

Beniamino Benvenuto Bufano (October 15, 1890 - August 18, 1970) was a California-based Italian American sculptor, best known for his large-scale monuments, usually of granite. His modernist work often featured smoothly rounded animals and relatively simple shapes.

"Bene" Bufano, as his friends referred to him, though this soon morphed into the Americanized, "Bennie" in the hands of the press, first came to San Francisco to work on a sculpture for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Afterwards, he traveled extensively before returning to settle permanently in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Considered an outspoken radical at the time, Bufano chopped off his trigger finger and sent it to President Woodrow Wilson at the onset of World War I as a protest against the war. In addition to his work as a sculptor, he taught at the San Francisco Institute of Art (but was dismissed in 1923 because he was considered too modern), the University of California, Berkeley, and Oakland's California College of Arts and Crafts. St. Francis Wood is an affluent residential neighborhood located in southwestern San Francisco, California, south of the West Portal neighborhood and west of Mount Davidson. Although most of the homes of this neighborhood are painted in light pastel colors the residents of this colorful house must have a need to be noticed--or perhaps there was a great close-out bargain sale of this paint color . . .

One of the first films that I re-scanned when I got the G4050 (just like my crummy G4010 except for a real 4x5 film holder template and a Full Width transparency adapter). However, that scan has lingered until now. It has been the recipient of my new (old) DonzRGBActions C-Neg based negative conversion process.

Well, this is one of the films that I got drum scanned. However, there was so much localised processing that I did to get the HP scan where I wanted it that I simply never managed to match what I had gotten from the HP. In view of that, I'm making one more stab at it based on the old G4050 scan.

And yes, this would appear to be remix week!

My garden has been relatively successful this year, particularly the grapes. Just ask the local raccoons . . . they are assisting me in this year's harvest.

Okay, go ahead. Pluck a grape off the bunch. They are tasty.
