I love the color in the sky with the lifeguard stand in the foreground to add some interest.

SSGT E.J. Landry (left), Bill Mertens in the jammer driver's seat, and 'Chaz' wields the hammer to adjust this AIM-7. 'Chaz' was an appropriate nickname for this weapons specialist who bore a striking resemblance to convicted mass murderer Charles Manson; some would argue his behavior was similar as well. A favorite line for anyone being hassled was, "I know Chaz - and Chaz could have you killed."

The best safety measure is appropriate footware: shoes or boots with non-skid soles.

Walk on sidewalks if possible. Snow can hide tripping hazards in unpaved areas.

Avoid areas that are not shoveled or where salt has not been applied. Even if the area has been salted and snow is melted, be on the lookout for ice formation.

Tired of not coordinating your accesories with your safety orange hunting vest? Missing the neon orange of the 80s? Want some dayglo orange for that rave coming up? Want to dazzle the school kids at your crossing guard job?

Look no more!

Safety First! is a handmade 8 strand kumihimo cuff made from dayglo/safety orange yarn, I believe to be 100% acrylic, possibly acrylic/wool blend. This awesomely bright yarn is from the Team BNA Traveling Swap Box and found its home with me.

This is a fun cuff! It features a gloriously cool handmade stoneware flower by Lisa Peters ART, securely attached to the cuff with a Czech glass druk bead in teal with a vitrial coating. The flower itself color coordinates with the cuff itself, with a glazing of cobalt, hints of teal and bright orange.

The ends of this spectacularly bright- and I mean bright!- cuff are handbeaded in peyote stitch, using 6lb FireLine, with Czech glass seed beads in cobalt and teal. The clasp is a silver plated extension chain and lobster claw clasp.

Amaze your friends! Blind the deer or wild turky or men or whatever you chose to hunt! Flash back to the 80s! Where ever you wear it, Safety First! is sure to turn heads! If not completely blind people!

I'm in the #2 lane, from which I can go left or straight through. Roughly half the vehicles in this lane will go straight, the others will turn left. #1 lane is left turn only.

See the Mr Safety on the bike with the high viz vest and helmet? He's to the right of the straight through traffic. The bike path is off to the left, so I predict he's gonna make a left turn in front of the straight through traffic. Mr Safety doesn't disappoint.

Me, I don't like getting run over, so I queue up and take my place in the middle of the lane in preparation for the left turn.

Rocky Mountain Foreman III Lineman Ron Burbridge goes over the equipment linemen will be using during the field trials, Sept. 2-3. After a half day of classroom instruction and half day of testing each lineman's proficiency and comfort with the helicopter, Rocky Mountain lineman replaced hardware on 10 miles of transmission line outside Laramie, Wyoming, as a test case of the efficiency and value of using helicopters to transport people to structures. Safety and job briefings took place once a day or more to ensure linemen were comfortable with the process. (Photo by Lisa Meiman)
