Late afternoon movement on the Brisbane river.

What a SAD, TRAGIC FRIDAY!!!

Four 9th Graders and their Principal drowned today while on a fisheries science field trip to the island of Huraa, near Male'.. read full story..

Accidents do happen and such unfortunate events are often beyond our control. But we do need to take all measures within our reach to avoid such tragedies as frequently in the future.

Swimming is NOT just a recreational sport for Maldivian children. It is a part of life and needs to be taught along with proper Water Safety and First Aid to school children of ALL ages. It is NOT an option. It is a matter of life and death!

Teach your child how to swim... TODAY!!

I hope these instructions are clear; please follow them carefully.

Saw this sign recently in the old grain elevator. Am thinking it would look very nice framed and hung on my bathroom wall.

How could this splinter happen to a robust fence? Unlikely that some bicycle went out of control and crashed...

Taken for the Active Assignment Weekly! group. This week's assignment: Newton's laws of motion

So my second submission this week features pretty much the same theme but I was forced to give the owner of the brick stones a star role in this one. He wanted to do the stunt all by himself, so all I could do was giving him as much protection as possible...

What it took:

Explaining little Prozac05 again and again that he may not start drilling before daddy gives a "GO!". Once I did it, I bet he was pretty surprised how fast the whole thing came down (due to the help of my little friend "string" once again...). Post-processing wise I enhanced the colors and contarts even more and added a vignette to make you focus on the middle of the screen.

Those of us who recall the BBC's "Woodentops" may take a second look at this as the figures illustrated in this 1923 LGOC (part of the then London Underground Group) safety leaflet do look a bit similar! The artist V M Macdonald was commissioned by the Underground Group for several works at this time, including posters. This leaflet shows and warns of the danger of a variety of road traffic and similar situations.

On the water front, near to the harbour, a preserved and interesting old garage-cum-petrol station converted from a pilchard store.

It owes its survival to an inhabitant of St Mawes, Brenda Pye, who in 1976 made it into an artists' studio. She subsequently donated it to the St. Mawes Gig Club. It now serves as the club's boathouse.

This petrol pump still stands alongside what was the garage forecourt. It harks back to a time when an attendant, usually in overalls, would appear on your arrival and top up your tank as required.

This pump hails from the 1920s and has been preserved with help from Shell Petroleum.

Also great to see the early AA sign attached to the garage's wall. Most of these signs were removed during WW2 in a bid to confuse any unwelcome visitors that might land on our shores.

That's the first thing I think of when I see this image. We should all wear safety goggles when we ride our tricycle ;)

Unedited mobile phone cam shot of a mother&kids biking in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

When you see a family on their bikes, beware! There's nothing as dangerous as a mother or father watching over her/his children while they're riding a bicycle, their protective instincts are on high alert and they'll do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of their little ones, they become the Godzillas of biking...I've tried passing this dad with a child in a little chair in the front once and he felt endangered by me coming up from behind, so he wildly swung in my direction and almost caused me to crash into a metal pole, for no obvious reason...needless to say that I would have kicked him into the Amstel if it wasn't for the kid hanging on to dad&the bike for his dear life :))

I've also made a wicked reflection movie of this spot, watch it on my YouTube page :)

It makes me wonder how many incidents they had before they put up the sign. St Lucia, South Africa

Sadly there's been lots of reports of steel wool photography destroying historical landmarks, so be safe when you do it. Do it after rain, and have sand and concrete as a location instead of dry wood! And if you have to do it, remember the fire extinguisher. via 500px bit.ly/1skFVHe
