The screwdriver was a Pozidriv no.2 in black, which I still have in my toolbox today.

Pozidriv screwdrivers are an improved version of the Phillips cross-headed screwdriver, redisgned to give more torque (applied force), with less risk of cam-out (slipping out).

The toolbox has been out on my balcony for the last 20 years, and some of the tools have rusted in that time - but not the Pozidriv no.2 in black.

Note that I was wearing protective spectacles, with side protection for the eyes.

🇬🇧 The supervisor who earlier allowed me a look inside the sports hall now invited me to see the connection cabinet serving that space.

Relaxed and clearly proud, he poses next to his work.

The photograph was made in strong backlight — the light shapes the moment, softens the technology, and places the emphasis on the human presence.

Naturally in full safety gear: craftsmanship requires care, focus, and responsibility.

Sometimes you have an unpleasant day at work. This is a good example of that. I had been cutting metal pieces with a chop saw most of the day. I'm extremely comfortable with the chop saw. Then I had to change gears and switch to cutting panels of masonite and PVC on the portable table saw. Not my favorite, but I'm fairly competent with 1/8" panels, especially when I have a spotter. Now when a 1/4" piece came my way, I didn't really think about the difference in thickness and just went about my business. That's when the dang saw kicked back right as I was finishing the cut. Slammed the PVC into my hand, skidded up my arm, bounced off my shoulder and flew over me. Luckily, I was wearing gloves or this nasty swelling would probably be an exploded hand. It still makes me shudder when I look at this. Luckily, my hand is fine. Just severely bruised, with a little scar left on the tendon of the pointer finger. Don't try this at home, kids...

Well, go ahead and try this at home, just hope that your table saw has a guard and you have more skills than I do!

Automobile Association Sign

The AA erected more than 30,000 of these village signs between 1906 and 1939. After 1939 it became the responsibility of local authorities to erect directional signs.

Most of these were removed during WW2 in a bid to confuse any unwelcome visitors that might land on our shores.

The vast majority of the signs that remain are now in private collections or museums.

Cropped just out of the frame, is Bill's GoPRO camera which he wears to document the controlled burns while volunteering his time with Dane County Parks. I should have known from just seeing that apparatus on his head that h would make the ideal subject for me to include in my 100 more strangers project today. As not to bug him to much during the first half of the burn, I let him do his job but I found while walking back he was the one who approached me. Ever curious to know who I was, and where the photographs would go.

We exchanged contact information, and then made conversation on the trail back to base. While I was walking, Bill was lucky enough to have an ATV for quick response to needs for water among all things. Working around fires for the better part of 50 years as a firefighter in Maple Bluff and the last 25 years with Dane County, he has seen his share of burns. But because he is always on duty and with the burns it's very critical to be on top your game, he finds that he is never able to take as many photos as he would like. Plus his boss likes to keep him in check and always maintains a busy regiment of work.

Shooting on a variety of Canon DSLR camera's he found them to be too bulky and heavy for lugging around during burns and recently invested in the GoPRO as well as a Canon P&S with the equivalent of 800mm zoom at the long end. Not to be left to unattached from the world, Bill enjoys taking photos with a group in arboretum in Madison on the third Wednesday of the month. As it was still a bit of a long stretch back to the base site, Bill offered me a ride on the back of the ATV so that I wouldn't be too extinguished by the time the next burn started; silly firefighter humor I tell you!

In parting I stretch out and invite you the reader of this to try out snapping photos of strangers. I've found the more that I do it. the better the stories become. Meeting all sorts of people with all sorts of backgrounds is definitely fun. I struggle the most with shooting photos of females, as I'm sure anyone viewing my photostream can tell you. Nervous and anxious are the two most common feelings I get, I over think the situation and feel like I'd just come off as creepy! So if you are reading this and have any pointers to becoming more comfortable in clicking photos of females for the project feel free to comment or PM me! All chatter aside, I do recommend checking out the 100 strangers group! It's full of truly amazing people, with just as equal if not greater skill at taking excellent portraits of strangers too!
