I often marvel about how, when we freeze time with a camera we are able to capture a single moment, a mere fraction of a second. In that moment, we are mining gems that would have otherwise remained concealed. Imagine if, on this day in April 2015, I had been slow on the shutter, or I had left even five minutes before. Maybe I hadn’t been out there at all. Still now, five years later, this is one of my favorite memories from my time at Brick Pond. In my mind I remember the encounter, if enshrouded in the vagueness brought on by the years in between. But this one brief exchange is magnified by its timelessness through photography. How lucky I am to have this memory, solidified by this image. April 18, 2015 Hoping that you are all safe and able to connect with your distant loved ones through telephone, social media or other means. If we keep doing the right thing, soon enough we will be back together and creating new and even more poignant moments. Don't forget to freeze a few with your camera, to relive a week, month and even five years from now. Stay safe!

Red Flags are lifted to show the status of the tide. When red flag is hoisted no one should go for a beach bath. Only take the Bath when it is high tide. Low tide will wash you out to the sea and High tide will drive you to the beach. Shot taken at Dubai beach.

Who knew that builders mesh stuff would make for quite such good light!

Hoof, Horace, and I were gathered around the table having breakfast and planning our day out, just like any normal family.

On completion H & H put their cereal bowls and wine glasses into the dishwasher, folded their serviettes and put into the washing machine, so we were all set to saddle Hoof up and roar off on another adventure.

First stop St Michael’s Mount to carry out a courtesy call on Denzil Penberthy and Slipalong Trevaskis. I am sure you know these two legends of Cornish folklore have been in charge of security at the Mount since about 1473, and thankfully there has not been any security breaches during their term in office.

This is due mainly to the fact that Penbethy has this ability to drink any wannabe trouble maker under the table.

So we had a few social drinks, no exhibition drinking as it was still early in the day. During the time we were on the Mount (time flies when you are having fun) the tide had covered the causeway which you access the Mount by on foot, so we had to take the amphibious vehicle back to the mainland (well worth googling)

Horace did not like this mode of transport at all so he dived off the AV and swam back, being a pig he can only do porky paddle. He was also muttering something along the lines of “where is my pink surfboard when I need it most”.

Next stop Porth Nanven located in the beautiful Cot Valley which is renowned for its fascinating smooth rounded boulders which are sometimes referred to as dinosaur eggs. This location has really challenged me with the weather conditions on my recent visits and this was going to be no exception.

Hoof had recently been to the Land Rover factory where he had been fitted with the very latest on board weather forecasting radar screens (every horse should be fitted with these). Data from these showed that the evening was going to produce extremely high spring tides coupled with strong offshore winds creating very unpredictable conditions.

The waves were coming in at great speed, force, and height, plus the noise of the boulders being dragged back down the beach from the power of the tide was like bombs going off.

So the personal safety of Hoof, Horace, and myself was paramount.

Therefore I just guessed some camera settings (no change there) waited for the right moment for a slight lull, quickly moved into position, grabbed a couple of shots and out of there, that way I can always come back and have another go one day.

So the three of us went back up to St Just where Horace produced a back pack and a blanket from Hoofs saddle bag, I Said “what have you got there Horace” Oh he said “I thought it would be nice to stop and have a pig-nic”

Thank you all for stopping by and looking at my photos, your comments as always are so appreciated, enjoy this beautiful weather

As temperatures warm up on the northern prairie, the Richardson's Ground Squirrels have surfaced in search of food. Despite the snowy terrain here, there are lots of bare patches where they can find dried grasses and edible roots.

These are back to back frames at 7 fps, and you can see the little rodent's reaction time. In the approximately 0.14 seconds between frames, he has heard the shutter go off and reacted with a headlong dive to safety. This quickness is the key to survival, because the coyotes, badgers, hawks, and eagles are hungry, too.

The EXIF data won't reveal much because the original shots were moved to a blank canvas for this diptych. I used my new Nikon D850 and the 200-500mm + 1.4x teleconverter. ISO 400, 1/2500 at f/8. Bean bag over the window sill of the rolling red Toyota car blind.

Early one morning at Newton Lake, I came around a corner and surprised about 30 Mule Deer, a mixed herd of does and yearlings, that were grazing the sagebrush flats. They must have felt trapped between the lake and my car; they prefer the safety of the hills on the other side of the road. Within a few seconds they were on the run, leaping and bounding to get away. I just shot from my car window. Mule Deer are the most common large mammal in these parts, so they aren't really high on my shoot list, but I know that I'm spoiled. Great light, great action, no complaints!

Safety First is what is written on this old barn-like building near Victor, Colorado. October 2006.

This small castle is located not far from my home.

Here the fog had already started to roll in from the Left and after just a few minutes, the small castle has completely disappeared.

This candle is made of wax, but the light and flickering flame are battery operated! You can even turn it off and on with a remote control.

I was intending to do this for the Macro Mondays Group theme 'Flame', but just didn't have time to do it earlier in the week.

This really was a joy to behold actually being here and to witness one of the most incredible sunsets at Trebarwith that I have had the privilege to see over the last two or three years, what nature is able to bring to us never ceases to amaze me.

However us tog’s are never satisfied, and in an ideal situation the shot at high tide here would have been from down in the gully, capturing the cascading seawater running off the spine of the rock that leads down to the beach.

The factor preventing this was very strong onshore winds coupled with a very high tide thus creating 15 to 20 feet waves.

Just some safety advice for any of you who go to photograph this location, the north coast sea conditions are so unpredictable, and if you are in the gully it is not possible to see the rogue waves that come in over the top with such force, I have seen on more than one occasion togs and their camera equipment completely knocked over, then taking the long very wet walk back to the car park.

So as I did on this evening and others like it, the advice is head to the higher ground so it is possible to see the unpredictable incoming waves.

Thank you for looking, your faves and comments are very much appreciated.😎

In the cat tree enclosure. About 40 degrees and he doesn't mind.

It was getting late and the afternoon shadows were long when we finished a snowshoe hike in the Tobermory area. After driving around the Big Tub Harbor to check out the lighthouse, we were surprised to see no ice on the water at all. Looking around for something else to photograph, I noticed the sun just behind the structure itself and thought it would be interesting to position it right about where the light would be located. However, the sunlight was so intensely bright, I couldn't safely spend enough time to compose it properly. Instead, I wound up bobbing and weaving between the shadows and the light to minimize the exposure to my eye and try for a few quick shots. Thankfully, no one else was around to watch my antics as I'm sure they would have had a good laugh
