No crate but the seatbelt works

Art-hater Daley and his toadies (including those in the establishment art community) wasted more than $100 million to kill it. But all they did was inspire the true artists of the city to make their art even better. See also www.flickr.com/photos/10413297@N03/5645755402.

Took a path I hadn't before and came across this bridge, just off the track.

There's a wall near the intersection of Haight and Fillmore that I'd infrequently seen some wheatpaste art go up on and I was intrigued to see a painted mural going up in that space. I walked over to the ladder where Ash Rose was adding her signature roses to the mural and asked a few questions.

"This is a big piece - there seem to be a bunch of styles and collaborators here."

"Yeah, there's a bunch of people working on this piece - RAS TERMS, DEAD EYES, SHRINE, SAFETY FIRST, SAGE, PLANTREES - all part of the Black Diamond Shining crew."

"So how did you score work on a big white wall like this?"

"Well, we hooked up with the building owner through friends. Rather than just random stuff going up the owner was happy with something more planned."

"With so many collaborators, how long did it take you to put this up?"

"It's a few days worth of work."

"I remember seeing your roses wheatpasted all over the Mission a few years ago."

"Yeah, that was way back. I started with etching when I was at CCA, moved on to wheatpaste and now I love to paint."

"Nice. It's awesome that you're putting your work out there!"

"So what do you do?"

"In my spare time I take photos - sort of a record of what I see in my time living in SF."

"Well, why don't you put it out there? You're passionate about it, so print it out and paste it up!"

"I have to admit, there's a strong appeal to that. I'd love to, but not right now - maybe one day. Thanks for your time. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result - have a good one!"

"You too!"
