10 minutes before this it was chucking it down. Now in the sunshine, SWT Desiro 450093 approaches Farnborough Main with the 14.42 London Waterloo - Basingstoke service.
Some of the creatures on the bridge wet themselves when this ugly thing showed its face, apparently they aren't overly common in Eastleigh.

158 890 and 159 008 have just arrived on 1L25, the 10.20 from London Waterloo. While the 159 will return on 1L56 the 14.25 to Waterloo, the 158 will retire to New Yard, waiting to work 1L94 the 17.46 to Axminster.
It was raining. Hard. I turned the van into Dryburgh Road and was just crossing the bridge when I saw headlights. I stopped the van, grabbed my camera, after all, it could be one of the two missing High Capacity Desiros from my list. And indeed it was!
South West Trains High Capacity Desiro HC450560 rushes towards Barnes with a Windsor & Eton Riverside train. Yay!!

With limited options for new contract coaches, South Wales Transport has purchased six Volvo B9R Plaxton Panther 2s for school contracts. Like the previously purchased B7R Profiles (2009), these vehicles are technically registered as brand new, despite having been previously used on Ministry of Defence contracts. The foresight behind these purchases is that, once the Plaxton Profiles eventually reach the end of their service life, the Panther 2s can be reconfigured to seat over 70 passengers comfortably.
Within Swansea, operators running school contracts must comply with regulations — such as the 15-year maximum vehicle age and the requirement that all pupils be seated on the same level as the driver. These rules contribute to a higher fleet turnover, particularly for older ‘executive’ coaches, such as EB & AB60 MTB, which were subsequently sold to Newport Transport.
Additionally, because of the “same level as the driver” rule, it is unlikely that vehicles like the Plaxton Panorama or Van Hool Astromega will be seen in local operators’ fleets anytime soon. Cymru Coaches did briefly operate a Plaxton Elite i, but it was soon withdrawn as it lacked suitable scope for contract work once rail replacement demand subsided.
As a result of these restrictions, it is rare to see older vehicles or a wide variety of coaches operating within Swansea.
Preparing to leave a rather damp Manchester.

The bad weather has seen SWT roster Class 159 units on the Eastleigh to Portsmouth Harbour shuttle service.
Needed for the list, one of three caught today, South West Trains Desiro 450033 passes New Malden with a London Waterloo train. A Class 455 at each stopping platfrom too.
I don't usually post photos that aren't copyright to me but this time I'll make an exception. South Wales Transport, Weymann bodied A.E.C. Regent lll 410 (HWN 906) is seen on her side at Baglan in August 1954. This photo is dear to me, as my late father was the driver. This is the photo that was published in The Evening Post, it was purchased on Ebay a few years ago.
