Friendship does not have Limits and boundaries

Sneak me a story

Read me a tale

Under the covers

Beneath a moon so pale

From beginning to end

A journey it shall be

Sneak me a story

Yesterday i saw some familiar faces that I have seen every year for 4 years now at Fantasy Faire with Children of Stories.

And it was also the first time my clogs were at the fair, I was so excited!

Lots of stores, but not only that, behind all that, there are also games, evenings, discovery workshops, quests and much more!

This year, a fox outfit (really beautiful!) is present at the Kiosk Relay For Life.

The story is just beginning and here is a tiny piece of it...

Started to tell the true story of the great drought. "The Sphynx was no hero! The Lindworm was a creature of solitude, but an ally who comforted the sick and the lame. They received peace under his grace, and mercy away from war like tribes of Earth.

Lots of people, lots of stories. Remembering a sunny hot afternoon now that the early snow starts to fly. Kensington Market is the eclectic heart of Toronto Canada.

What a difference a day makes. This is what "Isles of the mist" location on Loch Garry, shown in the last four scenes, looked like the following day, with no direct sun, no mist, though still reflecting.. As flat as a pancake.

(Actually, here on digital, after a tweak to contrast in "curves", it looks a LOT better than the original slide ever did!)

However, the photo isn't the only thing that's feeling "flat". In fact I'm feeling rather sick at the moment, like, "This would be a good time to give up photography altogether"!

What happened? Well, this evening, I "Upgraded" my catalog backup in Lr Classic 9. (It's been telling me to do it for a while.) There's a big warning with it , "This operation Cannot be undone!" Also, it tells you to ensure you have made a recent backup.. Well I back up 3-4 times a week so, no problem there. Right? WRONG!

I never actually opened those backup folders to see what was in them, I just assumed when I clicked on "Back up now" it was backing up everything.. Now I find that from the time I went "Adobe subscription Lr", nothing since that date has backed up. Updating the backup has deleted those 18 months of work! That must be close to 2,000 hours worth!

I know everything more recent really has gone, because it now accepts imports from anything later, which it wouldn't do if they were still in the catalogue.

(I'm keeping things in perspective though, especially at this time with C-19, when FAR more serious losses are happening for many people.)

Thank goodness the original pictures/files are safe, but all my grading and processing from that date, appears to have completely gone.

“Yeah. There’s something on the roof.”

“Do you think….?”

“Hmmmmm….”

They listen.

“Nah, it’s just Alfred E. Newman up on the roof again.”

Merry Christmas.

So many stories start with ships waiting. This one was waiting in the moonlight off Miami Beach. I felt it had a story.

Ansel Adams says that a photographer must visualize the photograph before he executes the mechanical tasks necessary to make the negative and the print. I have to admit that I had a strong visualization of this seafaring image, but I was not able to bring it out as strongly on the final jpg as I felt it on the beach that evening.

SLS Lux is a 57-story skyscraper luxury apartment building and hotel in the Brickell district of Greater Downtown Miami, Florida, United States.

The building consists of 450 condo units and 78 hotel-condo units set atop a parking pedestal. SLS Lux is located at South Miami Avenue and Southeast Eighth Street, across from Brickell City Centre, at 801 South Miami Avenue. It is regarded as one of the best apartment buildings in its neighborhood by residents, with an array of opulent features from marble flooring throughout the common areas, two rooftop pools, an on-site spa and gym, private elevators to each residence, top of the line appliances, modern finishes and 24-hour security and valet service.

Announced in 2014 as the third tower in the Brickell Heights development (although it is across South Miami Avenue), site work and ground construction began in 2014, with vertical construction commencing in July 2015, after receiving approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. Designed by Arquitctonica, the building was, at this time, expected to have 450 "residences" and 95 hotel units with the delivery of fall 2017. In September, when the Related Group secured a $166.1 million construction loan for the project, the number of hotel suites had shrunk to only 84; however, at this time additional amenities were announced including a tennis court, three pools, and a spa, with a bar and restaurant operated by SBE Entertainment.

By November 2015, the building had already been more than 95% leased, with only 24 units remaining un-leased. At that time, Related cut the required deposit from 50% to 30%, in an attempt to lease the final units faster.

I've always loved stories. Stories are nourishment for the soul. Without them, your soul would die. And honestly, if I had enough books and no need for anything else, I could read stories forever. True story.

It makes no sense for me to try and upload photos in a timely fashion. That'll just never happen. I'll upload when I feel like it. But it's nice to have a goal to work up towards, so that's the only reason I even bother to continue with the numbering.

So this picture was definitely more trouble than it was worth. I spent about 5 hours moving around a couple hundred books, and another 4 hours trying to edit this (Hint: I definitely don't even have a 1/4 of all the books you see here). Even with all the time I spent working on it, I know I definitely didn't put enough thought into it, because I feel like it's lacking something. There's also a bunch of mistakes, but hopefully that's not noticeable. Maybe I'll fix it later. Maybe.

Also, looking at it now, I feel like it's one of those 'READ' posters, so now I just think it's a really generic idea. I was so excited though when I thought of it... Eh, whatever. Roughly 200 books, 75 photos, a 2.5 gig psd, and 9 hours later I at least have something to show for it.

That's the story. The end.

finally got to do this yesterday. i loved this book growing up.. and i still do.

Brisbane River in flood, Hawthorne, 2022.

I have borrowed the title of the great Elton John album of 1973 for this shot after reading the story below from the ABC. It is very poignant and tells a sad story of a man who played a final tune on his beloved childhood piano before it succumbed to the waters for a last time.

"Brisbane classical piano player and teacher Gian Luca was forced to abandon his childhood piano when his St Lucia home flooded over the weekend, but not before playing one final tune.

"I woke up in the morning and our roommate was explaining there was floodwater. I looked out the window and I could see that the whole street was flooded," he said.

"I quickly went downstairs to our garage area, and it was already past my shins. One of the first things I looked at was my piano, which was my childhood piano so it means a lot to me.

"I knew that it was already probably too late, and that piano was going to be gone, so I thought it was one of the last chances I'd get to play it."

Knee-deep in muddy floodwaters, surrounded by gym equipment and his watching housemates, Mr Luca sat down on a floating fridge and improvised a farewell tune to his piano.

"I just wanted to play something really happy and a bit silly," he said.

"I could have played some kind of depressing classical tune, but I just wanted to play some really short, happy improvisation."

He eventually managed to evacuate that afternoon, with the help of an SES crew; but sadly when he returned home, the piano was too damaged to save.

I wonder what he played? This might fit!

The Story Bridge is one of Brisbane's most iconic landmarks. Opened in 1940, this cantilever bridge spans the Brisbane River, connecting the suburbs of Kangaroo Point and Fortitude Valley. Its design was inspired by the Jacques Cartier Bridge in Montreal, Canada. Built during the Great Depression, it was a crucial public works project that provided employment for many residents. Today, the bridge is famous for its "climbs," an adventure activity that offers panoramic 360° views of the city. In addition to being a major transport link for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, the bridge is illuminated at night, creating a spectacular urban landscape.

I said, "In the stillness of the night, do you ever feel the city's dreams come alive?"

She replied, "Yes, I do. It's like the whispers of the past mingling with the shimmering lights, telling stories untold."

Stories for Squares...

People often seek escapism in movies and pictures as a means to momentarily detach from the pressures and realities of everyday life. These forms of media offer a gateway to alternate worlds, where individuals can immerse themselves in compelling narratives, fantastical settings, and larger-than-life characters.

Through the suspension of disbelief, viewers can temporarily forget their own troubles.

Whether it's the thrill of adventure, the allure of romance, or the exploration of distant galaxies, escapism provides a reprieve from the mundane and allows people to explore new realms of possibility, fostering a sense of wonder and excitement.

Generally a short term "fix" - a better long term strategy is to be comfortable or even happy with your life (but that's a story for a different day).
