Haven't had time to go to the bridge for a while. All done up this weekend for the Global Rugby Tens taking place at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.
The birds were singing amongst the branches of the alder trees as he ambled down Wolfscote Dale. The sun shone down into the mini-canyon reflecting and sparkling on the bubbling and burbling waters of the River Dove where it flitted and bounced from rocky boulder to hidden outcrop on its gentle journey downhill to the sea. Mallard ducks scooted from the reeds at the side, checking out detritus that floated past their riverside outposts. And suddenly a shape in the corner of his vision made him look round quickly. Could that have been a beaver he just saw? But otherwise his face lifted up, eyes scanning the skyline on the upper fringes of the dale.
The message had said “ Meet me at the pass”. Nothing more, but it had been enough to pique his interest and have him hurry down that way. Inevitably he expected his approach to be spotted long before he reached the meeting point, even with the schnauzer trotting ahead to pick up any hidden threats.
His eyes locked on a buzzard soaring high against the sun, the curve of its glide drawing his sight towards a prominent pinnacle further along the dale. And there he saw a faint pillar of smoke drifting up into the sky. At its base he saw a small figure wave, too far away for him to recognise who, but immediately he changed tack, his boots cutting into the sloping turf on the valley side as he cut a path diagonally up towards the figure above. As he did so, he guessed the meeting point had been selected to put him at a disadvantage, as he would huff and puff up the gradient and arrive somewhat weakened. But he stopped occasionally as he climbed to swivel round and admire the view behind, whilst he caught his breath, a quick swig from his water bottle refreshing him for the onward battle uphill.
As he crested the brow he spotted a pony, hobbled, and grazing on the short grass over the other side of the hill, and the figure sat, back to him, by the fire reaching out to place sticks on it. He advanced cautiously, not knowing what to expect having fulfilled the instruction to meet at the Pass. He wondered if he knew the individual, slightly untidily wrapped in hooded fur coat and leggings who appeared to be absorbed in tending the fire. Suddenly the head turned, an angry look directly at him.
“What took you so long, Mr Pertistent?”she said. Shocked. It wasn’t who he had expected. It was that Peak’s woman again, of the tribe that needs no men. Unfortunately for the piglet, she already had him on a spit over the fire.

The ghostbus is back.
Having departed this world nearly three years ago with the stench of Covid-19, the original ghostbus tour of Dublin is back, scary stories, graveyards & churches in a night time 2 hour tour of the city's murky past.
There's plenty of ghosts & ghouls lurking on O'Connell Street in the hours of darkness.
Ghostbus "Lucy " is seen on the first evening of the return on 13th September 2022 on O'Connell Street, operating three times a week at 7 & 9.30 pm....if you dare.
Telling a story in a photograph is often one of the hardest things to do. Creating an image that lets the viewer come up with their own story is what I aim for. On this evening in the Roan Highlands, the Milky Way rises over the trees as a roaring campfire on top of Round Bald lights up the trees. It was so nice to be out under the stars again.
