"Capturing and creating movement in a still photo is a challenge for every photographer. Use movement this week to tell a story."
This morning, Big Human and I went to the zoo. In January they will move to the newly built zoo and I thought saying goodbye to the zoo I've been visiting for 30 yers (God I feel old writing this!) was the right thing to do.
We first set out to the polar bears. I saw Lale (might be Noordje but I think it was Lale) playing with something.
We were astonished to see she was diving up a cat from the bottom of the waters.
Yes. A cat.
Apparently, a cat wandered into the zoo at night and climbed the electrical fence around the polar bears' enclosure. It was instantly fried and fell into the water.
Lale dragged her new friend on the shore but it did not help. It was a surrealistic but also a sad thing to see. The zookeeper threw Lale some fish to lure her into the nighttime enclosure and then another zookeeper started the process of getting the cat out of the water. The bears had not chewed on it or eaten any of it. I am sure it was someone's pet and that someone would like the pet to have a proper funeral after the misfortunous adventure.
I decided to post this pic only showing the feet as I did not want to upset you guys.

There is this difference between the grief of youth and that of old age: youth's burden is lightened by as much of it as another shares; old age may give and give, but the sorrow remains the same.

Telling a story in a photograph is often one of the hardest things to do. Creating an image that lets the viewer come up with their own story is what I aim for. On this evening in the Roan Highlands, the Milky Way rises over the trees as a roaring campfire on top of Round Bald lights up the trees. It was so nice to be out under the stars again.
