After spending the afternoon and evening in Toronto Islands it was time to go back to the downtown.

In the picture you can see the ferry approaching the pier to bring us back to the city.

¡Feliz Lunes!

After spending a day railfaning the remaining meter gauge lines between Dudwa and Pilibhit, it was time to call it a day with a nice cup of tea.

The lad in the center seems to be working against the advice that "a watched pot never boils".

Spending some quality time off trail with Candor.:)

Spending as much time as I can at my favorite place, I watched the seabirds flee, I knew something was up, then this gigantic juvenile flew in front of me, over and around my head. The sun was setting. She gave me a lovely silhouette.

This one is younger than the two we saw on Sunday.

Be well dear Flickr friends!!!!

We spend so much time in our heads... Analyzing. Wondering. Asking. Planning. STOP... come back to here, now. Where I am it's mid afternoon in late summer. The sunlight is flooding the grass... It feels still. And that's all there is for now. And all is well. {victoria erickson}

Many enjoy spending the day just hanging out at Quincy Market in Boston, Massachusetts either talking with old friends or just spending time together as a couple.

From my first day shooting with my recently purchased Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II. Looking forward to spending more time with this camera!! ❤️

Relaxing time after shooting.

Spending time at Isle of Pandasia , Dolly (221, 136, 23) - Adult

Well, what a lovely place to spend a morning today and the first location of three on my one day Yorkshire Dales workshop today. This gorgeous waterfall is just a thirty-second walk from the car park (coordinates 54.276202, -1.972721).

The funny thing is that I have never visited this waterfall before but having seen a photo of it somewhere a few weeks ago now, I knew that I had to include it on a Yorkshire Dales workshop and what an inspired decision that was.

The sun was streaming through the leaves to the right of the waterfall and that helped to illuminate the gorgeous red water at the base of the waterfall. Using the wonderful moss covered rocks and tree trunks in the foreground allowed me to create some interest and a base for the waterfall to sit above.

Overall an awesome place to spend a couple of hours on a stunning summer's day. I hope you all had a great weekend too :D

Spending Christmas at Bora Bora was amazing! The staff there is excellent. They even offer guided meditation and yoga in the mornings for stressed out people like me XD They decorated our villa for Christmas, and we got to spend time relaxing in the sun while the rest of the world got covered in snow XD Seriously, go take a trip there if you get a chance. Ride with dolphins, go scuba diving, rock climbing, zip lining... I can't even list all the things. It's fun, okay??

After spending the day at the Nevada Museum of Art, admiring the romantic paintings depicting Lake Tahoe from the mid-1800's through the 1930's, I decided to stop at Bonsai Rock on Lake Tahoe's north shore on my way home to capture a romantic scene of my own. The thick, dense cloud cover prevented any sunset color, but, along with the foreground rocks, provided an interesting composition pointing towards the subject, or at least, that's how I interpreted it.

Flamingos spend about 15% to 30% of their time during the day preening. This is a large percentage compared to waterfowl, which preen only about 10% of the time. Flamingos preen with their bills. An oil gland near the base of the tail secretes oil that the flamingo distributes throughout its feathers.

Flamingos are filter feeders, and in that respect resemble whales and oysters more than they do most birds. Many complex rows of horny plates line their beaks, plates that, like those of baleen whales, are used to strain food items from the water. The filter of the Greater Flamingo traps crustaceans, mollusks, and insects an inch or so long. The Lesser Flamingo has such a dense filter that it can sift out single-celled plants less than two hundredths of an inch in diameter.

Flamingos feed with their heads down, and their bills are adapted accordingly. In most birds a smaller lower beak works against a larger upper one. In flamingos this is reversed; the lower bill is much larger and stronger, and the fat tongue runs within the bill's deep central groove. To complete the jaw reversal, unlike other birds (and mammals) the upper jaw is not rigidly fixed to the skull. Consequently, with the bird's head upside down during feeding the upper bill moves up and down, permitting the flamingo's jaws to work "normally."

Part of the flamingo's filter feeding is accomplished simply by swinging the head back and forth and letting the water flow through the bill. The tongue also can be used as a pump to pass water through the bill's strainer more efficiently. It moves quickly fore and aft in its groove, sucking water in through the filter as it pulls backward, and expelling it from the beak as it pushes forward. The tongue may repeat its cycle up to four times a second.

Flamingos are not the only avian filter feeders, however. Some penguins and auks have simple structures to help them strain small organisms from water, and one Southern Hemisphere genus of petrels (Pachyptila, prions or whalebirds) and some ducks have filtering devices. The Northern Shoveler, the most highly developed filter feeder among the ducks, has specialized plates lining its long, broad bill. The Mallard also has a broad bill, horny plates, and an enlarged tongue. But the pumping action of the ducks is different, and their tongues are housed in the upper mandible, rather than in the lower as in the flamingos.

The flamingo's marvelously adapted tongue almost became its downfall. Roman emperors considered it a delicacy and were served flamingo tongues in a dish that also included pheasant brains, parrotfish livers, and lamprey guts. Roman poets decried the slaughter of the magnificent birds for their tongues (much as early American conservationists lamented the slaughter of bison for theirs). One poet, Martial, wrote (as Stephen Jay Gould recently translated):

My red wing gives me my name, but epicures regard my tongue as tasty.

But what if my tongue could sing?

Just typical...spend a glorious week in Torridon searching for photo opportunities in fantastic conditions....get home and take the dog for a short walk and come across some fabulous drifts!

Great day for checking out the Theatre District. Where is all the traffic?

Love In The Sand..

A few weeks ago was a frigid cold day, sub zero temperatures with strong winds made it feel even colder. We made our way to Jack Darling Memorial Park and spend a few hours braving the cold to get some shots.

the cloud filled sky was changing by the minute, the light was so unpredictable my meter was getting a workout. at times it looked like the a sudden storm would crack the sky and either snow or hail would soon be pelting us. Suddenly the dark clouds dissipated and light fluffy clouds with hints of blue sky appeared,

Karen was busy carving her love to me in the sand.

Are we spending too much time infighting politically and forgetting the real global danger to the entire world. Peace and harmony are the only solutions but in order to achieve them we must work endlessly to that goal.

Shouldn't our politicians, news organizations, technology empires and vast corporations get involved in protecting humanity and our environment?

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

The spectacularly bizarre Andean Cock-of-the-rock is perhaps the most popularly recognized bird of the cloud forests of the Andes Mountains.

Distributed from Venezuela to Bolivia in the Andes, this species is readily identified by its fan-shaped crest and brilliant orange plumage. Males spend much of their time displaying at leks, where they jump up and down on particular branches and utter low, guttural croaks. The name is derived from their preference for rocks and ledges as substrates for their mud cup nests.

After spending more than 20 years of isolation, in 2020 46 013 of BDZ Cargo has been sent to RELOC S.A. Craiova (Romania) for a major overhaul. In the beginning of April 2021 the locomotive has been sent back to Bulgaria. Now it is serving freight trains mostly on the Sub-Balkan railway line, between Pirdop and Burgas. On the photo 46 013 is leading a big train with sulfuric acid from Pirdop copper mining plant towards the port of Burgas. Photo has been taken between Klisura and Rozino on 23 May 2021.

After spending a few days in the vicinity of Whooping Cranes, our next destination during our first trip of 2025 was South Padre Island and the Rio Grande Valley.

A pretty reliable bird sighting at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature center is Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. Here are five of them.

Each summer, I typically spend some time photographing butterflies at the Palmyra Cove Nature Park. They have a very nice butterfly garden that attracts many species of butterflies and skippers that inhabit the Mid-Atlantic States. Regrettably, this summer I did not spend much time photographing butterflies as I was very focused on birds. Recently, however, I did spend some time photographing late season butterflies, like this Painted Lady. Please view large for best experience.

It is Monday and back to work. Enjoy the day~!

Spending time with beloved people is always wonderful, but in times of Corona it is a gift. Today Easter will passing by and I thinking about the meaning of Easter, but,..., no imaging to miss one of friends or one of my beloved family is horrible. And the hope to see as again, somewhere, our souls, after our death, can't help me really.

So let me thank for a wonderful time, together, in peace and with healthy!

Spending so much time with Danni!

Happy Summer Solstice & HCT!
