Tendrara station, Bouarfa freight line, Morocco. DK559 stands for photos but also to allow the local police and military to receive the pice of paper we have all filled in with names, nationalities and passport numbers. This is a sensitive area as the Algerian border is never far away (the line almost parallels it) it is a closed border due to a long standing dispute in the south between the two countries that has even seen Algeria support a diaplaced minority fronted by the Polarsario front that even have a few T34 tanks of WWII vintage! Our passage howeve passed without incident.

A sweet little student and family gave Kristi this mug and these cute gingerbread snowflake cookies. Kristi takes care of this student in the nurse office at school and has grown to get to know this sweet student and family. So, Kristi asked if we could do a little photography project:
1. Get a strand of colored lights
2. Make hot chocolate
3. Add whipped cream
4. Photograph cup in focus with lights blurred (bokeh)
5. Share photo with student/family
Bennet went to the store and bought the lights. He made the hot chocolate on the stove from Williams-Sonoma. Then he added whipped cream. Thank you to this family for the "Special K" (that's what Kristi's mom called her when she was little like the cereal) mug and cookies and candle. We burned the candle during the holidays and the hot chocolate was good.....this was something we had wanted to photograph and hadn't tried, so you helped us learn to do that!
Roughly a month removed from hand surgery, my pins were removed on Monday the 21st. It seemed only fitting to get in a sweet 16 miles when it was 52 degrees in December. While this was not my first time back in the saddle, but it was 11 miles more then my first ride back on the 18th.

Starting 2021 as 2020 ended with yet another of the "Tunnel Six" DB Cargo Class 92s heading to Crewe ETD.
92036 "Bertolt Brecht" is the fourth member of the micro-fleet now at the ETD along with 011, 019 and 042. This leaves just 015 and 041 at Dollands Moor, supplemented by GBRf’s 032.
92036 was heading in to the ETD to be the last of the active DB UK fleet to have the new in-house designed pyrogen fire suppression system fitted after the original system became illegal (as of 01/01/2021) due its use of halon gas.
The Dyson was hauled to Crewe from Wembley on a 0K06 VSTP path courtesy of VSOE-liveried Class 67, 67021 along with its partner 67024 (which had moved 92036 from Dollands to Wembley earlier in the day on 0B34).
Duddo Five Stones, Berwick, Northumberland.
There's something magical about being in or around a stone circle under a magnificent starry night sky. Duddo Stone Circle, with its dark skies and sweeping 360° views, is truly something special. I just can’t get enough of this place!
Yes, I know, I've been almost non-existant here on Flickr for a while. Believe me, I'm trying!
Anyhow, I just got through tax season, and now we're on our annual "Post Tax Season Adventure Trip." This year we decided to re-visit the east coast (Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts). We're staying in mostly B&B's and little boutique hotels to make things that much more interesting.
This picture is from a lookout point in Algunquit, Maine on a little walking trail called the "Marginal Way." The east coast is such a beautiful place! And don't let anyone tell you the spring isn't a great time to travel back here...the weather is great (just a tad chilly, but nice), there are no summer bugs, and the humidity doesn't destroy your vacation this time of year.
I hope you're all having a great week! I know our's is off to a pretty darned special start!

In anticipation of a really great day, I new I needed to make a special toast. For this occasion, I went with the traditional dram of scotch. This 12 year old Speyside single malt sat for a portrait before it was thoroughly sampled and tested before the big day.
Strobist: It's a little involved,so bear with me. It's 3 lights, all SB's. There is a boom arm extended overhead holding a white bristol board behind for the background. Clamped on the boom is the first SB, gelled yellow and orange and pointing at the background. I used the light field method from 'Light: Science and Magic' and made sure that the background filled in my entire viewfinder, no larger. Giving me a dark edge, defining the bottle. The second SB was behind a big white scrim to make the reflection on the bottle as large as possible. I kept this light a stop or more underexposed to just create a foundation to lay the third light. A tightly gridded SB pointed right at the label, making it white and giving it some contrast. CLS.
