A sow and twin cubs feed on roots on the Nenana River south of Denali Park Alaska. These are second year cubs and will be driven away by their mother later this year. The cubs spend two years in their mother's care before they are driven away.
In the yard, it would be a weed - but in the field it's kind of pretty, makes an interesting photo..
The grizzly sow called "Raspberry" walks close to my car. For the photo techies, this was a super low light shot, taken at ISO 51,200. Edited with Topaz DeNoise AI. October, 2020.
Looking a little like some mid May snowfall masses of airborne seeds are on the move at Saltley. Even though there were so many of them they were really difficult to capture on an image although really easy to capture in your mouth whilst taking said image. A Birmingham bound 323 rattles over the A47 with just some light traffic and a couple of pedestrians for company.
It’s six in the morning and the golden glow of the sun, barely risen, blankets the meadow. “Old Sow,” a well-known bear has already begun her daily trek, meandering along the slough (pronounced “slew”), out to the mouth of the river, and back again into the spruce and thickets that pepper the mountain slopes of this temperate rainforest. The sun has not yet bestowed its warmth upon the lea and the sow’s sultry breath rises, condensed by the evening chill that struggles in retreat. A new day begins, less encumbered and more wholesome, along this stretch of Alaskan Coast and each breath of its fragrant aura restores my soul.
I love this symbiotic relationship, where the thistle relies on the goldfinch's love for its seeds, to distribute the next generation.
From last year.
This is the same black bear sow pictured in Bear Acorns earlier in my photo stream. This is a few minutes after that picture was taken.
Having eaten her fill of acorns, she was on her way to rest in the shade.

Winter sowing is the process of planting seeds outdoors in a container during the winter months. The container remains outdoors until the seedlings emerge in the spring. The container protects the seeds from animals and harsh weather, but the exposure to colder temperatures breaks dormancy and the seeds germinate. The container also provides an ideal environment for germination in the spring.
This is a first for me... I planted flowers and lots of parsley and milkweed for the butterflies!
