How did your weekend go? Despite the bad weather predictions we decided to roll the dice and hit the shore yesterday. That short window of time when the sun was blasting golden light on to the city was worth the fact that we needed to get up at 4 am. I decided to go with long exposure and use the water and cloud texture to emphasize the city. What do you think?
There are three Bessemer and Lake Erie orange tunnel motors still kicking around uo here. Unfortunately 904 is relegated to yard or trailing status only and isn't able to lead on the mainline leaving only 906 and 909. While 909 was by far our best score we did get in one chase of 906, a rebuilt SD40-3 orignally built as an SD45T-2 in Jan. 1975 as SP 9348. She is seen here on an a dark evening with DMIR 404, IC 6256, and CN 5244 leading a U715 loaded limestone train for Minnntac rounding the curve approaching the south end of Coons Siding at MP 18.7 on modern day CN's North Division Missabe Sub mainline.
This is an area that needs no introduction to even the most casual fan as the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway is in a word legendary. I won't bore you with pages of history as I couldn't do the road or region justice anyway. It simply needs to be experienced for oneself. But I will direct you to two resources. Absolutely check out the fabulous historical information here: www.missabe.com/

Had a drive along shields last night . While the kids played on the sand I took a quick shot of the pipe.

Less than half a mile from a junction with the Passenger Main, Union Pacific's SCPV rolls down the Provo Subdivision through Salt Lake City's Ballpark neighborhood at 13th South and 2nd West.
The circular building above DD35A No. 75's cab is the Salt Palace, home to the Utah Stars (later Utah Jazz) basketball team, and the Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey team. The structure opened in 1969 and was demolished in 1994.
Today this right of way is owned by the Utah Transit Authority. Opening for service late in 1999, today this is a very busy section of the combined Blue, Red, and Green lines, with light rail transit reaching the south, east, and west areas of the Salt Lake Valley, most of it on former Rio Grande and Union Pacific right of ways.

Today featured two things I never thought I would see on the mainline again: a pair of Execs on a coal train and a UP SD60 on the point. Here is LNV46 South of Valparaiso.
The beach was fairly empty when we were there but it should be filling up with spring breakers by now.
Amroth is both a village, a parish and a community 7 miles northeast of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Located on Carmarthen Bay.
Amroth is noted for its long sandy beach which stretches the length of the village. It regularly earns a Blue Flag award. and is the south-to-north start of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
A typical tree on the top of the South Downs, shaped by the prevailing south-westerlies that buffet this part of the country.

I think this was taken about half an hour after sunset, just before the pink colours "evaporated".
An inbound South Shore Line train rushes along the Metra Electric line at 35th Street in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago on July 25, 2025. South Shore uses Metra's former Illinois Central trackage to reach downtown. This piece of railroad was electified 99 years ago and those catenary support bridges are just as old.

There’s something special about greeting the day in Arches National Park as the first light slips over the horizon. Watching the sun burst through the rocks while the arch catches those first golden tones feels grounding, quiet, and just a little bit magical.
Selfie standing between large gum trees that are 100's of years old, looking to the ancient stars and nebulae at an incomprehensible scale. Moralana Scenic Drive north of Hawker, South Australia. Tamron lens, processed in Lightroom with a daylight white balance for colour in the stars.
South Lake Rd. turns off of Highway 168 out of Bishop, CA. I had been exploring the Sabrina and North Lake areas earlier and wanted to explore this lake also. The aspens along the drive were much better than when I got to the lake. I pulled off the side of the road to capture the grove and had quite a few people join me as I was shooting.
There was a waterfall just to the left of where I framed this picture, but I couldn't get the whole view in one picture. Someone was able to build their vacation home right next to the waterfall and had this amazing view. I was just a little jealous.
