I had been transported to B&W heaven on this sunset photo shoot at Perran Sands, Cornwall !!! Everything seemed to fall into place. Perfect tide....no people....no footprints in the sand !! Really hope you all like this image, and your feedback will be most welcome. Have a great day.
Bit of a detour while up North to photograph the lone tree on Rydal Water. I spotted it while driving alongside the lake, and it's only a short walk from the car park. It was a very grey day in the lakes, so I decided to go for a mono image. Shame I missed the snow, but at least the long drive back to Cornwall was a safe journey. Have a great Sunday.....
Walked on the coast path today from Fowey to Par.....quite a hike !!! espescially as it was so hot. You get great views from the navigation mark on Gribbin Head. The main problems taking this image were harsh midday sun, and strong winds. I used a 10 stop Firecrest glass filter, and still only had an exposure time of 50 seconds at f16...... Have a great day.
Having just completed a brutal deleting session in LR, I came across this image which I thought was worthy of some exposure.....hope you like it. Very hot in Cornwall this morning !!!
Another image from Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall. The cloud cover was great on this day for creating high contrast long exposures.....beautiful deserted beach !!! Hope your day is going well......
Thought I would post one more image of this unique experience from Freathy Cliffs. This capture reveals more of the holiday chalets under the rolling mist, which are dotted along the cliffside. Whitsand Bay is a great location for photography, and well worth a visit if you are down this way, much quiter than other parts of Cornwall.....Have a great day.
I'm always fascinated how light catches the shapes and textures in the sand around sunset. I love processing these types of images in B&W, as it gives you so much creative freedom.....weather still pretty awful down here in Cornwall. Comments will be most appreciated.
I just love venturing out on these North Cornwall beaches at low tide. This image was taken at Whipsiderry beach, Porth, near Newquay. The cliffs reflect beautifully in the wet sand, and experimenting with high contrast slow exposures is great fun.....have a great weekend.
Back down to my local beach for this image.....I feel that I captured the feel of the place on this beautiful morning, and had the beach to myself !!!
120 second exposure at f16, focal length 35mm. 10stop ND filter, 2 stop ND soft grad, polariser.
I love this time of year for beach photography, as it is so much quieter. Conditions on this day at Bedruthan Steps were ideal.....low tide, very little wind, and good cloud cover, which enabled me to shoot directly into the sun for lots of contrast. Venturing out on the wet sand as the tide drops, is great for capturing reflections...CD's essential for tripod feet !!! The downside to this location is climbing back up those flippin steps with all the gear....they are brutal !!! Comments will be very much appreciated..... have a great day.
I've had this composition in the back of my mind for a while now, but conditions had to be right. Good sky, mid-high tide, north westerly swell, and the sun in a position where it would shed some light on the cliffs above the beach.....not much to ask !!! but everything pretty much came together on this shoot. I locked in on this compostion, and just kept shooting, experimenting with shutter speeds to capture the surf rolling up the beach. I settled for a one second exposure which I felt gave some feeling of movement in the waves. Hope you all like this one, and feedback will be most appreciated.......weather good in Cornwall today.
I've always been fascinated with the shapes when looking up, standing directly under an electricity pylon. I felt this image had to be a slow exposure. Lying on my back under my tripod and soaking wet, passing dog walkers thought I had gone completely crazy !!! I know it's been done before.......but what hasn't ?

I've had this image floating around for a good while now, and never been to sure which direction to take the processing. Having tried colour, black & white with tints, I decided to keep it pure mono.....hope you like it !!!
I have recently printed this image in colour for a customer, having previously posted it on Flickr as a B&W conversion. I was quite pleased with the result after some work. Cooling down the white balance seemed to do the trick, giving the image the feel I was after.......very cold in Cornwall today !!!
Simple composition taken at Towan Head beach in Newquay. This is a two image composite...... the sky is a two minute exposure, and below the horizon is a six second exposure to retain some detail in the waves.
Weird how some of my metadata randomly disappears when I skip between PS and LR.....probably another LR bug which has reared its ugly head !!! Only happens occassionally. Anyway this image was taken on the same evenig as my last Porth Nanven post....1.5 seconds at f16 for those of you who are interested. Too hot in Cornwall today !!
Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi cultivar from my Gold Coast hinterland garden. In the sub-tropical climate these pretty plants proliferate and flower in the mild winter. Slow exposure indoors using natural light on an overcast day.

This is a thirty second exposure which on one hand has given the waters surface a polished sheen and on the other, a light breeze has moved the top of the trees in the right hand corner causing a blur. I suppose I could edit that out but not sure that its really worth it?
The Pistyll Cain Waterfall with a 65 foot drop, is part of the River Cain, has a 65 foot drop, and is in the Coed y Brenin Forest. There are many reminents of the 19th century gold rush in the vicinity.
The Brighton Marine Palace and Pier is a pleasure pier in Brighton, England, which opened in 1899. It is generally known as the Palace Pier for short but has been informally renamed Brighton Pier
With the weather we have been having where else could i go and get a slow exposure shot, well i couldn't resist paying my favourite beach a visit

Trying to ease anxiety. Perhaps shaking out feathers in the rain...
NB. Before fiddling with this, the histogram had no blown-out highlights ;-)

Last image from this evening at Perran Sands. The plan next week is sunset beach photography at Bedruthan Steps, tide times are good from Thursday. Another sleepover in the van with my two lurchers !!! Have a great week.
I was hoping for a spectacular sunset at Land's End on this evening's visit, but guess what ?.....the grey murk arrived on the horizon bang on cue. I should have driven down the night before, when apparently the sky was amazing. Still.... felt I came back with something worthwhile, and certainly visualised this image in mono when I took it.
Edited in Prisma app with Thota Vaikuntam for Sliders Sunday. Bayside, Queens, NYC — February 4, 2023
My original photo was a spontaneous handheld iPhone shot. I think I did a pretty good job of holding still through the long exposure, but not good enough to capture the details of the clouds and halo around the almost-full moon. The iPhone night mode comes out too light, and the colors get saturated when the exposure is toned down. Still, i liked the Van Gogh-like colors of the sky. Finally, I thought this would be a good subject for the Prisma AI app, and was pleased to see what several did with moon and sky. This was my favorite. Perfect for Sliders Sunday.
