Such beautiful birds, I feel this weather in the North East, UK, at the moment of posting, may be having a devastating effect on them.
A Short-Eared Owl cruises along the fields during sunset, in search for a vole , against a pretty epic backdrop. ️ ⛅️

My first trip out to the new, to me anyway, WWT reserve at Steart - they've done a fine job as far as I can see.
Was hoping for a glimpse or more of the Pallid Harrier that's been around for a while now - no luck.
However there were at least 3 Short-eared Owls hunting around the salt marsh towards the breech. When they first took to the wing the light was great - that late afternoon glow. By the time I got the chance for a shot it was arse - what to do.
My first SEO shot and I'd love to get more.
Don't feel obliged to comment as just a record.

Seeing as the weather was at last pleasant on my day off i thought id pop along to see the Steart SEOs and sure enough the pair were very active once again.
The main reason for posting this image is to update the large number of people who have contacted me for updates on the SEO's at Worlaby. The news is not good. Most of the owls appear to have moved on. I have been down 3 or 4 times in the last week and seen only 1 or 2 birds and at distance.
Anyone thinking of travelling long distances to see the SEO might want to think again. Would appear the good times are over till later this year. www.davidnewby.co.uk
