As the Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus), swithches from one area to hunt over another they often glide at speed over the vegetation. For once it was fairly close and at eye level.
Phil and I finally caught up with some Short-eared Owls in good light and they came close...... Deep joy !!!!!
Large Crop - It doesn't matter how much I try, but unfortunately I cannot get a close fly-by from these guys at Portland. I was under a Cam Net and in a thorny bush for this shot, waiting and waiting till the last moment to fire the shutter but the bird always turned away. Clearly she heard the shutter on this burst, but it was getting late and the light was extremely low, so I had to give up yet again. So I'm off this afternoon to try again, probably my last chance before they migrate.
Didn't come as close as I would like , but when do they ever , great just good to see them today, and some interesting company too :0)
A few shots all taken last week in and around The Great Fen, Cambridgeshire

Thanks for looking.
Quite a substantial crop of two Short-eared Owls having a territorial dust up !!
Why don't these things happen closer :o(
While looking up for a Short Eared Owl in flight a helpful passer by pointed out the one sat right in front of me - doh!
