We have a three hour layover at Detroit airport. Having fun with long time exposure riding the terminal express train.

I processed a single RAW image into a balanced HDR photo.

Who would like to join our meditation class at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California? We practice zazen (座禅, Japanese for "seated meditation") on Saturday mornings. When I meditate regularly I find that I am more balanced, and that I can't get stressed easily. Info and RSVP at the Eimei University Meetup group.

I processed an enhanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and added some sepia to give the scene an old-style look.

In this hole, there was a house, maybe? Now is a beautiful, meeting point for the Light.

During my visit to this town in Castilla la Mancha,.. I found many interesting corners and empty spaces, but at the same time, full of visual content for me...

Today we are staying at Tonopah, Nevada. North-west of the town is a 110 megawatt solar thermal power plant called Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project. It will start operating later this year. The anticipated to cost is a bit less than $1 billion.

This solar power plant can operate 24/7 - hot salt in a big tank stores energy for use at night. A truly large-scale project. An overview video explains it.

The title is a play on a tail. The fossil fuel industry is riding on government subsidies and misses the boat. The renewable energy industry is smart and leaping ahead.

I climbed up a big sand dune to get a good vantage point. Walking barefoot was the easiest to get up on the dune. You see my steps at the crest.

I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from two RAW exposures, then merged them by blending 80% of the paintery version into the lower part of the scene.

In April we spend a few days in Boulder, Colorado. Boulder is a beautiful college town. One day I drove into the mountains and followed a dirt road for quite some time, mainly through forest. I stopped at an open meadow that had a shallow pond, suspecting nice reflections at sunset. I took this shot shorty after sunset.

Does anybody recognize the title? Hint: Rock title.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, and played with the color balance to make the scene pop.

I saw many places around the world and I left a piece of my heart in each of them. But the biggest one is always here. For me, the best place in the world.

After going to an entrepreneurship event in San Francisco I went to nearby Mission Creek. There are houseboats since the sixties, now surrounded by new development. This is the view from the houseboat area towards AT&T Park.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from two RAW exposures, pulled the curves for mid tones, and desaturated the image.

Last summer we walked through the upper Antelope Canyon, near Page, Arizona. Our tour guide threw some sand into the air to make the beam of light more visible.

I processed a creative paintery HDR photo from a single exposure, and converted it into a monochrome photo.

Last week a paintery-looking monochrome photo of the upper Antelope Canyon, not unlike this one, was sold in Las Vegas. A collector bought Peter Lit's photo called "Phantom" for $6.5M, the highest price ever paid for a photography. Info: This is what a 6.5 Million Dollar photograph looks like.

I'd be happy to get 0.1% of that for this one.

In November I experienced a beautiful sea of fog in Schuders, Switzerland. The sunset was incredible, and at night we could see the fog illuminated from below. Down at the bottom of the valley is Schiers. The small town has a hockey field that is brightly lit.

Today I joined a photowalk at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline park, located north of Berkeley, California. You can walk for miles - it is a big park overlooking the San Pablo Bay, which is part of the San Francisco Bay. We took many sunset shots. I stayed behind, sat down on a bench, and enjoyed the evening glow. It was a picture perfect day, no clouds, calm, no wind.

I processed a soft HDR photo from a RAW exposure, tweaked the brightness a bit to get the silhouette look.

A week ago we took a red-eye flight from San Francisco to Cincinnati, Ohio. I took this photo at Cincinnati airport after landing when the airplane was taxiing to the gate. Blue lights indicate taxiway boundaries, green lights indicate the center of the taxiway. The lights appear as dots because of long time exposure of alternate current light.

I processed a single RAW image into a soft HDR photo.
