The Mount Hamilton Grandview Restaurant overlooking the Silicon Valley had a change of ownership and was under renovation for a long time. It is now open for a few month. According to owner Elliot, they have not done any advertising, but have been quite busy since they opened. No wonder with this view.

Yesterday I went to the city of San Francisco for a startup pitch meetup. Afterwards I took some photos at the Embarcadero near the Ferry Terminal. This is the Bay Bridge at night, with the lights of Oakland shining below it.

I resurrected an older photo from 2013, cropped it, and played with the color balance to give it a vintage look.

Last Friday on December 20, the Atomkraftwerk Mühleberg nuclear power plant was switched off permanently after 47 years of operation. This is its smoke trail taken the day before while approaching Zurich airport. The remaining four nuclear power plans remain operational - for now.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

jan 09 2017: My ski gear is still sleeping in the boxroom, no snow has fallen on the mountains up to now, and it won't snow soon.
The picture was taken last spring. If I remember well the situation had been very similar to this year up to February, then the snow suddenly came.
So, I keep on hoping...

We are at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada again. This time for the Mudroc rocket event organized by Aeropac.
We had heavy traffic on the way, the drive took 9 hours instead of 6 hours. We arrived shortly before midnight, everybody was already asleep. I took this shot after we arrived. The moon is almost full and illuminated the playa (dry lakebed.)

The Fox Oakland Theatre is a concert hall and a former movie theater, located in Downtown Oakland, California. In the 1920s theaters across the nation strived to be more than just a typical building. This theater's interior with rich colors and intricate gold accents resembles an Indian temple. It closed in 1965, was refurbished in the 2000s, and reopened as a concert venue in 2009.

Today I went to a ETH Alumni event in downtown San Jose, California. This is the view facing south from the 17th floor at the Silicon Valley Capital Club. San Jose is the center of the Silicon Valley and with 1M people is 10th-largest city in the United States.

Two years ago we went to the Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. It's a very unique slot canyon, definitely something I recommend anyone to have on the bucket list. The canyon is in a Navajo Indian reservation - you have to take a guided tour to see it. We took a tour at around noon, at that time you get these nice beams shining straight down the narrow canyon.
I had the camera on automatic when I took three exposures holding the camera against the wall. The ISO was high, so I used the JPG files instead of the RAW ones for HDR processing because Sony has very good in-camera noise reduction. I used 2 of the tree exposures for the balanced HDR processing, then desaturated the image.
