This is the tunnel that connects the E Terminal with the main terminal at Zürich airport. The shuttle is a self driving train. I sat at the front to take this motion blur exposure. There are sounds of cows and yodeling as you can hear in this video: bit.ly/2mQ8bD4

I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposures, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves.

We got up at 5am in my hometown Schuders and hiked up the mountain in the darkness. Schuders is a small village with just 30 people. The village is located higher up in the mountains of Graubünden, a canton in eastern Switzerland. The sun was covered in the clouds at sunrise, which created this mystical cold light.

This morning I was hiking along this road high up in the Swiss Alps. A man was working on the road with a pickaxe. His car was parked nearby. I did not know him. He asked me, "can you drive?". "Yes", I replied. He continued, "could you drive my car down to the village for me?". Apparently he was working his way down on the road and needed someone to drive his car down the mountain so that he does not have to walk back to get it. Only in the Swiss Alps you hand over car keys to a complete stranger. "Just leave the key in the car door compartment". "OK", and off I went.

I processed a moderate-paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures.

This is a lesser known view of San Francisco. After going to an entrepreneurship event in San Francisco I went to nearby Mission Creek. There are houseboats since the sixties. In the last few years they got surrounded by high-rises. A local news article has some background on the houseboats.

I illuminated the foreground with my iPhone. I processed a balanced HDR photo and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW image, merged them, and pulled the curves for the mid tones.

My hometown Schuders is located higher up in the Swiss Alps near the Austrian border. One day when we drove down to the next town we witnessed these nice clouds illuminated by the settling sun. It looks as if the barn is on fire. I took this shot in Pusserein last November when I visited my hometown.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures. This scene has a very high dynamic range, so three exposures were needed to capture the full range.

Earlier this year we went hiking along the coast of Santa Cruz, California. At the lighthouse we met a group of people playing drums and juggling with fire. Santa Cruz has an old hippie feel; I like it - it feels so different from the Silicon Valley.

A look back to summer 2015.

On Friday I flew from San Francisco to Newark, then Zürich. At one point over Utah I discovered an impressive play of nature, a towering cumulonimbus cloud.

Tonight it looked like we would a nice sky, so after dinner I grabbed by camera gear and headed north to Alviso. It was a gorgeous sky, nicely lit up clouds from below.

I processed a photographic, a balanced, and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Recently on a trip to San Francisco we went to have dinner at the "Off the Grid" food truck event at Fort Mason in the Marina district. I walked along the docks to get a view of the San Francisco Bay with Alcatraz and Angel Island.

Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, California, has a small bamboo forest. There is a path with a bench. The bench was wet after the rain.

The tree in front of our house currently has beautiful autumn colors. Does anybody know the name of this tree? It has long narrow leaves.

I illuminated the tree with an LED light panel, and took this shot at dusk 30 min after sunset. I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW long exposure.

I spent some days with friends in Nagoya, Japan. Many years ago I lived and worked there for almost 8 years. This is the Kasuga Shinto Shrine, which is near the apartment where I used to live. I love the symmetry of reflections, which I captured here by positioning my camera on the ground before a small puddle of water.

Recently I joined a perception photo walk by master Jerry Downs at the De Young Museum located in the Golden Gate Park of San Francisco. We walked in the garden of the museum. James Turrell created an artwork called Three Gems. You walk through a small tunnel, exit in front of a small round dome, walk around it between high walls. I love the shades of red and round shadow.

I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully pulled the curves to pop the scene.

Happy 79th Birthday, Golden Gate Bridge! The iconic bridge was finished and opened on May 27, 1937. I love this art-deco architecture!
