We went hiking at Point Lobos, located on the California coast just south of Carmel-By-The-Sea. This state park has quite unique features. On the way you pass heavenly stairways made out of stones.
I processed a realistic, a photographic, and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

A gloomy start to a Sunday that would eventually bring a couple of inches of snow. Three exposure HDR processed with Nik HDR Effex Pro 2
My hometown Schuders is located in the Swiss Alps. Austria is across the rocky mountains in the background. We got a nice altocumulus cloud cover on a late summer afternoon.

Last month we went hiking along the coast of Santa Cruz, California. At the lighthouse we met a group of people playing drums and juggling with fire. Santa Cruz has an old hippie feel; I like it - it's so different from the Silicon Valley.

After attending rocket launches in the Mojave Desert in California we headed to the Trona Pinnacles for sunset. I don't know why, but I suddenly got the feeling we got beamed up to Mars. Well, maybe in 50 years after humans made dirt roads on Mars.

Recently we went to the Pfeiffer Beach at Bug Sur, California. The beach has rocks and sand. The sand is very colorful at one spot.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, then carefully and selectively pulled the curves.

It was sunset when we approached Zürich Airport last December, while flying over a cloud covered Switzerland, with a clearly visible steam plume from one of the 5 nuclear power plants in Switzerland. The next day, one of them, the Atomkraftwerk Mühleberg, closed down permanently. Yay for renewables!

I took this shot shortly after sunset today at Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, Nevada. I used an ND filter to get a long exposure to smooth out the water. The filter added this reddish tone to the blue hour, which I think is quite fitting for this scene.

After going to an entrepreneurship event in San Francisco I went to nearby Mission Creek. There are houseboats since the sixties. In the last few years they got surrounded by high-rises. A local news article has some background on the houseboats. This overpass is the end of Highway 280.
I processed a balanced HDR photo and a paintery HDR photo from two long exposure RAW images, and pulled the curves for mid tones.

In July we hiked up on path B at night to get close to the Fagradalsfjall volcano, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. This is as close as you can go safely, you do not want to walk on the fresh lava fields ahead where you could break into hot lava. When active, the volcano erupts every 10-15 min for a few minutes. I took this shot at 4:00am in the morning at the time of sunrise. This photo does not do justice compared to experiencing it in person. See video of this volcano eruption at bit.ly/3rtD4vq

I rose before dawn and made my way to Emerald Bay, a stunning inlet along Lake Tahoe's shoreline in northern California. Despite the cloudless sky I had hoped would add drama, braving the below-freezing temperatures to witness daybreak over this legendary landscape was worthwhile.

Torre dell'Orso, Melendugno, LE, Salento, Puglia, Italia
Image straight out of the camera, and straight out the beach
I ask myself how many places in the World are named as "Two sisters"..
On the south side of Torre dell'Orso bay, the maritime erosion, that caused the shoreline moving, made one of the most famous and beautiful view in Salento, the two sea stacks, so similar each other to be called "The two sisters".
A local legend tells that in the same place where the two sea stacks are, two sisters died trying to save each other from drowning.
In place of the two beautiful bodies, two sea stacks were born and they looked like they were embracing.
