W111
Replacing the Ponton with a design focused on passenger comfort and safety. Wider and squared off, with a large glass greenhouse improving driver visibility. A milestone in car design were front and rear crumple zones for absorbing kinetic energy on impact. All initial models shared the straight-6 engine carried over from the previous generation and capable of accelerating the heavy car to 160 km/h. The W111 spawned a pair of bracketing variants in 1961 : downscale entry-level 4 in-line engined vehicles sharing the W111 chassis and bodies, designated the W110.

On 10th February 2013, Trainworks rail museum at Thirlmere conducted a "Diesel Day". As well as 4001 performing shuttles to Buxton, on show were CFCLA's S300 and S311.
It's still raining following a heavy storm, but the sun starts to break through as 4001 shunts back into the museum, and S311 and S300 get ready to depart.

This one's abandoned, not wrecked. It's been here 3 or 4 months now. The authorities have got round to pasting the red X on it (which basically means "You're in trouble for abandoning your car here, Bub"), but haven't towed it. The open window and sunroof aren't really a worry, given that it hasn't rained since May. But surely Kuwait is the only country in the world where:
1. Someone would just abandon an S-Class Mercedes at the side of the road, even one as old as this.
2. The abandoned vehicle could be still in one piece months later!
S313 is being prepared to run a Link Tours train to Kyneton seen here at Newport in the Westblock yard.

Here they are seen on the loop line heading towards Picton, where they will reverse direction, and head back to Goulburn.
