More cars in the field where the old school buses were found. Someone seems to dump every car he doesn't drive anymore here. I see on street view this Mercedes has been here since at least 2014. But wasn't here in 2008.

V/Line S311 still in its Victorian Railways classic blue and yellow works the 0640hrs No.8038 Up Swan Hill to Melbourne passenger working, seen near Kyneton @ 0955hrs on Tuesday 8 April 1984.
EMD-powered S311 was built by Clyde Engineering for the Victorian Railways in 1960. It remains in service with private operator Southern Shorthaul Railroad though as of Feb 2025 sees little regular use.

Sun still rising and the cold air disapating, CLF4 leads S311, S303, GM27 and CLP12 through Old Junee with Southern Shorthaul Railroads 5CM6 loaded Emerald grain from Coolamon to Appleton Dock in Victoria.
X31 guides T356, S303 and T386 away from Tocumwal across the Murray River bridge from NSW into Victoria as 9374 to Vic Dock.

Goodwin-Alco model DL500B "World Series" 4486 is flanked by locos built by the competition, Clyde GM model A7 (later A16C) S300 and GM27.
S300 is the classleader of the Victorian S class and was built in 1957, the other two are young'uns, built 10 years later in 1967!

EMD-powered S302 is 61 years old this year, having been built by Clyde Engineering for the Victorian Railway in 1957.

Having just returned from Melbourne with the 'Southern Aurora 60th Anniversary' Special, T357 ^ S303 prepare to run around their empty cars at Central for their return run to Thirlmere.
With a combined age of 118 years former Victorian Railway broad gauge S class units S302/S317 head their Sea Lake bound empty grain train under the mainline outloader at Nullawil in Victoria on 17 April 2018.
The EMD-powered units were both built in Australia by Clyde Engineering; S302 in 1957 and S317 in 1961. Both have had several owners since passing on from Victorian government ownership and both are now owned by niche market freight operator Southern Shorthaul Railroad.
Remarkably less than 18 months ago both were on standard gauge and ran a couple of long distance wagon transfer moves from South Australia to New South Wales (see pic below)

The second move of redundant coal hoppers from Port Augusta, South Australia to Lithgow, New South Wales, is scheduled for Friday 2 December using the same exotic motive power plus star of Streamliners 2016, B61.
On 28 October 2016, the first 90 hoppers are seen snaking out of the power station loop at Port Augusta behind Southern Shorthaul Railroad's locos S317/GM27/GM10/S302

Well after midday the sun is starting to get a tad too high as S317/GM27/GM10/S302 approach Dowds Hill a few kms east of Peterborough, South Australia, on their epic journey to New South Wales.

SSR Bulldog locos S317,GM10 work an empty rail train from Melbourne heading North past The Rock on 18-7-11.
S317 started life with VR and V/line before heading to Great Northern under private ownership and finally Southern Shorthaul Railroad.
GM10 started with the Commonwealth railways, Australian National then to Great Northern and now is with SSR.
Southern Shorthaul Railroad's broad gauge S class units S302/S317 head empty grain #9197 past the abandoned silos at Boigbeat in country Victoria towards their destination at Sea Lake on 17 April 2018.
The track gauge is 5'3" (1600mm), but there is a plan to convert the line to Sea Lake to standard gauge, though this has been postponed on a couple of occasions lately.
With rationalisation of the grain handling industry in recent years, smaller silos such as these at Boigbeat have been severed from the rail network.

In a neighborhood that doesn't seem very rich we drove from one classic car to the other. Not being hidden in garages has its advantages. At least, for other people than the owner..
