The 3.5-litre version of the 280 SE typifies the resurgence of larger-engined Mercedes-Benz models that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when the progressive easing of fiscal constraints, which had dissuaded customers from buying cars with large capacity engines, encouraged the German manufacturer to offer bigger, more potent power units. Thus the ultra-luxurious 280 SE coupé/cabriolet and 300 SEL saloon were chosen by Mercedes-Benz to launch its magnificent new 3.5-litre V8 engine in 1969. An over-square design featuring a cast-iron block and aluminium-alloy cylinder heads, each equipped with a single overhead camshaft, this all-new, state-of-the-art power unit produced 200bhp courtesy of Bosch electronic fuel injection and transistorised ignition. Thus equipped, the Coupé/Cabriolet was good for 205km/h (127mph) with 100km/h reachable in 9.5 seconds, a substantial improvement on the six-cylinder version's figures. Although the equivalent SEL saloon used the 'New Generation' bodyshell, the Coupé and Cabriolet kept the elegant coachwork that had debuted back in 1959 on the 220 SE and, as befitted top-of-the-range luxury models, came equipped with automatic transmission, air conditioning, power windows and stereo radio as standard. Significantly, the 280 SE 3.5 was to be the final model to feature this long-established and much admired body style, and today these last-of-the-line classics are highly sought after by discerning Mercedes-Benz collectors.
One of only 3,720 Coupé examples produced, of which 3,025 were left-hand dive, this most elegant Mercedes-Benz, the top-of-the line 280 SE 3.5 V8 Coupe, was originally delivered to the United States and ordered in the stunning 'Tobacco Brown' colour scheme it is presented in today. It was bought by the immediately preceding owner - a UK-based enthusiast - for his impressive private collection in France. While there the car was maintained by his personal mechanic and saw only very limited use. The current vendor purchased the Mercedes in October 2016, since when it has benefited from considerable refurbishment. In 2017 the body was thoroughly restored and treated to a full professional respray at a cost of €12,490, photographs and details of which are on file. In 2021 various electrical and mechanical repairs plus a service were carried out at a cost of some €6,680. Early 2023 ignition and fuel injection systems were inspected and repaired at a cost of €4,385. Repairs have also been made to the air conditioning, suspension, interior, etc at a cost of €9,990, while the overhauled Becker Europa stereo is now functioning correctly. The total spend on the aforementioned works was approximately €35,000. The related invoices are on file together with various smaller bills. It should be noted that the Mercedes has been professionally converted to European specification, not only deleting the reflectors but also installing a km/h speedometer, etc. The replacement automatic gearbox had been installed already before the 1990s it is believed.
Beautifully finished in a most attractive colour combination of dark brown and sumptuous tan leather interior, this stunning Mercedes-Benz comes with the desirable options of automatic transmission (column-mounted change), air conditioning, and electric tinted windows all round.
Only having recently repainted into the West Coast Railway scheme for the second time, S302 trails B76 with a charter train departing Winchelsea on 13-8-2000 heading to Lake Modewarre where it will pick up the passengers which were involved in planting trees before heading for Melbourne

The Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 is the top-of-the-line version of the W116 model S-Class luxury saloon. It was built by Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart, and based on the LWB version of the W116 chassis. It featured the largest engine of any non-American production car post WW2. The 6.9 was first shown to the motoring press at the Geneva Motor Show in 1974, and produced between 1975 and 1981. The 6.9 is among the first vehicles ever produced with electronically controlled anti-lock brakes, first introduced by Mercedes and Bosch in 1978. Only 7.380 examples left the factory. This example was previously owned by the French pop star Claude François.

In 2015, Mercedes brought back the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes lineup, representing advanced luxury. The first model produced was the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, designed to be pitched against the Bentley Mulsanne and Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII, At 5,453 mm (214.7 in) long with a wheelbase of 3,365 mm (132.5 in), the new model is approximately 20 cm (7.8 inches) greater in both dimensions compared to the long-wheelbase S-Class models. Mercedes also claims that the S Class is the world's quietest production car The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 is also available in a Pullman version, a chauffeur-driven sedan which includes a partition-separated ultra-luxurious rear passenger compartment with two sets of paired facing seats. This version is equipped with the V12 dual-turbocharger gasoline engine, the seven-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive. Mercedes Maybach S600 shares the same 5980cc V12 Bi-Turbo engine with the standard S600, both are tuned to an output of 523bhp, though the Maybach is slightly slowere on account of its greater weight

Founded in Germany in 1977, Brabus has grown to become the largest tuning firm specialising in Mercedes-Benz products, other than the Mercedes' own AMG subsidiary. This breathtaking example of Brabus's handiwork is based on the ultra-luxurious Mercedes Maybach S650 sports saloon, one of the face-lifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class models introduced in 2014. The German tuner's upgrades boost the 6.3-litre twin-turbo V12 engine's maximum output to a staggering 900 PS (887 bhp) and 1,106lb/ft of torque - figures way beyond those of even the none-too-shabby S650's stock 6.0-litre unit (621 bhp/738 lb/ft). The result is a top speed of over 217mph and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of just 3.7 seconds - true supercar performance from a vehicle weighing 2.8 tons (2,845 kg). German car magazine Auto Bild pitted a selection of supercars against one another in a test of acceleration where the Brabus 900, despite being the heaviest contestant, reached a speed 211.4 mph in a mere 3,000 metres (1.86 miles).
But Brabus's cars have always offered more than greatly improved engine output, and in the S650's case the German tuner also added a new aero-enhancing front bumper, custom alloy wheels, 'Brabus' logos, and a luxurious leather interior complete with a rear-seat entertainment system and 'Brabus' entrance lights. Of course, with a bespoke vehicle such as this, individual customers could vary the specification to their personal choice, though inevitably that would add to the already not inconsiderable base price of a little over € 500,000.
Finished in black with brown interior, this spectacular Brabus 900 has covered a mere 620km since it left the factory and is presented in effectively 'as new' condition throughout. Noteworthy features include twin sunroofs and Platinum Edition 21" forged wheels, and the car comes complete with an iPad mini, Microsoft Surface, optional touch-screen operation, Apple TV, wireless connectivity, and an LAN router. Sold with all Mercedes-Benz books and a Brabus owner's manual, it needs only for the battery to be charged and will be ready to go. The car is offered with Equatorial Guinea registration document and technical inspection.

Double paned soundproofed glass was an innovation on this model. Other novelties were ESP introduced in 1995, an own development using on-board computers to improve vehicle handling response. Xenon High-intensity discharge headlights (1995), Brake Assist System BAS (1996), door mounted side airbags and seat occupancy sensors (1997). Automatic windscreen wipers with rain sensors were also introduced in 1996. This particular car belonged to King Albert II. It was delivered as an S 500, but only a few weeks later, he had a 6.0 V12 AMG engine fitted.

Mercedes-Benz' new 3.5-litre V8 engine debuted at the 1969 Frankfurt Show in the 280 SE coupé and convertible, and the 300 SEL saloon. An over-square design featuring a cast-iron block and aluminium-alloy cylinder heads, each equipped with a single overhead camshaft, this all-new, state-of-the-art M116 power unit produced 200bhp (DIN) at 5,800rpm courtesy of Bosch electronic fuel injection and transistorised ignition. This was some 40 horsepower more than those models' existing 2.8-litre six, so performance was greatly increased.
From 1971 the new V8 was available in the 280 SE saloon, the marriage resulting in a fast and well equipped 'gentleman's express' combining 200km/h performance with considerable luxury. Running gear was pretty much state-of-the-art from the time, consisting of independent suspension all round and four-wheel dual-circuit disc brakes.

This floor-shift automatic transmission 280 SE 3.5 saloon is equipped to an enviable specification, boasting a sunroof and a gorgeous Pullman interior. Owned for many years by a passionate German collector, the car was purchased in Germany by the current Belgian owner some 7 years ago. At the time of purchase the previous owner was told that the car was used by the Mercedes-Benz Factory as a demonstrator during the Munich Olympic Games in 1972 to convey the athletes. Described by the vendor as in excellent restored condition, and in full working order, this rare and supremely elegant modern-era Mercedes-Benz is offered with German registration papers.
