Greece is one of the countries that has massively benifited from my new "completion"-policy. For some reason, since I started looking for these plates, Greek plates become more common here. As you can see, Athens to Berlin is quite a trip, hence Greece plates are pretty cool to spot here. It's also nice to see them on a W220.

The Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 came out in 1968 as top-of-the-line model of the W108/109 luxury series, predecessors of the today's S-Class. The engine and transmission were taken from the 600. This powerful, comfortable long-distance sedan is fitted as standard with automatic transmission, power steering and many more extras - not something that could be taken for granted in the late 1960s.

The Mercedes-Benz W116 is a series of flagship luxury sedans produced from September 1972 until 1979. The W116 automobiles were the first Mercedes-Benz models to be officially called S-Class, although earlier sedan models had already unofficially been designated with the letter 'S' - for Sonderklasse or "special class." You could travel up the Blue Nile
with your finger, tracing the route
while Mrs Tilscher chanted the scenery.
Tana. Ethiopia. Khartoum. Aswân.
That for an hour, then a skittle of milk
and the chalky Pyramids rubbed into dust.
A window opened with a long pole.
The laugh of a bell swung by a running child.
This was better than home. Enthralling books.
The classroom glowed like a sweet shop.
Sugar paper. Coloured shapes. Brady and Hindley
faded, like the faint, uneasy smudge of a mistake.
Mrs Tilscher loved you. Some mornings, you found
she’d left a good gold star by your name.
The scent of a pencil slowly, carefully, shaved.
A xylophone’s nonsense heard from another form.
Over the Easter term, the inky tadpoles changed
from commas into exclamation marks. Three frogs
hopped in the playground, freed by a dunce,
followed by a line of kids, jumping and croaking
away from the lunch queue. A rough boy
told you how you were born. You kicked him, but stared
at your parents, appalled, when you got back home.
That feverish July, the air tasted of electricity.
A tangible alarm made you always untidy, hot,
fractious under the heavy, sexy sky. You asked her
how you were born and Mrs Tilscher smiled,
then turned away. Reports were handed out.
You ran through the gates, impatient to be grown,
as the sky split open into a thunderstorm.

I spotted this 40+ years old W126 S-Class sedan at a local garage.
On enquiring, I found that it was the daily driver of the garage owner, who told me it's age and that it was imported (latterly, I presume) from Germany.
Fitted with the 3.0-liter straight-six petrol engine.
Not pristine, but in a very usable condition.

Powered by Mercedes-Benz’s venerable 6.3-litre engine, the 300 SEL was certainly worthy of the three-pointed star. An engine born and bred on the race track, it could catapult a car that weighed nearly two tons to a top speed of over 130 mph and to 60 mph from a dead stop in under seven seconds – respectable numbers for modern automobiles and an extraordinary feat for a luxury saloon in 1969. Adored with the finest luxury fitments of the time, this was a car for those who were looking for the very best.
Ordered in Stuttgart, this 300 SEL 6.3 Saloon retains a copy of its original data card, which lists a host of desirable options. Fitted with heat-insulating glass, front safety-belts, electrically heated rear window and air conditioning, this Mercedes-Benz would have been an absolute luxury to drive. The data card also reveals that the 300 SEL remains in its original colour of Beige, with a dark brown interior – a subtle colour combination that highlights the elegance of this particular model.
Offered with a host of original documents, including the original German Kraftfahrzeugbrif stamped from Stuttgart and a well-stamped service book, this 300 SEL would serve as an excellent show car or daily driver.

In production from 1991 to 1998, nicknamed "Tank". Considerably more expensive than its predecessor, leading to slow sales during the recession of 1990-1994. Double paned soundproofed glass was an innovation on this model. Other novelties were ESP introduced in 1995, an own development using on-board computers to improve vehicle handling response. Xenon High-intensity discharge headlights (1995), Brake Assist System BAS (1996), door mounted side airbags and seat occupancy sensors (1997). Automatic windscreen wipers with rain sensors were also introduced in 1996. This particular car belonged to King Albert II. It was delivered as an S 500, but only a few weeks later, he had a 6.0 V12 AMG engine fitted.
