This is taking Teunis' great vent idea to a silly extreme, but I'm not one to run away from silly extremes ;-)
This design lets me squeeze six sections into 28 studs, which is about what is needed for a 1:45 scale S class.

The W180 was the first Mercedes to carry the letter S, to signify the luxury appeal of the model, this class became known as S class on later models.Bodily the 220 Series was 7 inches longer than the simular looking 180 Series Ponton model, and better equipped. The S model had a more powerful and upgraded version of the six cylinder engine with 105bhp and a top speed of 90mph, with better flexibility and acceleration. Cars came fitted with wood trim and optional leather interior, it was a car of the highest quality, with fully independant suspension, the 1950's equivelent to todays upper range Mercedes E Class.
They were also the first Mercedes to feature a three box design structure witha self supporting chassis body, known in Germany as the Pontoon. A characteristic of the three boxprinciple were fully integrated wings giving a much more modern look. Gone were the days of glamourous sweeping wings, and in came a more brutal slab slided look, along with the benefit of increased spacein the passenger compartment and engine bay.
This car was originally supplied to a South African client, returning to Europe around 13 years ago, after which it had a total rebuild.
It was the smaller 180 Pontoon that chased James Bonds, Aston Martin in the 1961 film Goldfinger.

Stored derelict S302 "Edward Henty" stands on broad gauge transfer bogies at Seymour. Despite wearing the (then current) V/Line Passenger livery, the unit was actually owned by startup rail operator El Zorro and was awaiting reactivation and repaint.
Fast forward to 2019 and S302 is now owned by Southern Shorthaul Railroad and is once again running broad gauge freight trains in Victoria, being used primarily on the SSR/Allied Mills contract.

In production from 1991 to 1998, nicknamed "Tank". Considerably more expensive than its predecessor, leading to slow sales during the recession of 1990-1994. Double paned soundproofed glass was an innovation on this model. Other novelties were ESP introduced in 1995, an own development using on-board computers to improve vehicle handling response. Xenon High-intensity discharge headlights (1995), Brake Assist System BAS (1996), door mounted side airbags and seat occupancy sensors (1997). Automatic windscreen wipers with rain sensors were also introduced in 1996. This particular car belonged to King Albert II. It was delivered as an S 500, but only a few weeks later, he had a 6.0 V12 AMG engine fitted.

Arguably AMG’s most iconic vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL ‘Red Pig’ jump-started the small company’s rise to fame, leading to Mercedes-Benz’s eventual takeover of the tuning house roughly twenty years ago.
Modified at a customer’s request, AMG started with a damaged 300 SEL and turned it into an all-out racing machine. Boring the engine out to 6.8 litres, which produced 420 bhp, AMG fitted aluminium doors, widened the track, fitted larger tyres, and flared the wheel arches. Due to its ungainly proportions and red paintwork, the car was quickly nicknamed the ‘Red Pig’, but soon enough the car proved itself in the crucible of motorsport. At the 1971 24 Hours of Spa, the car won its class and finished 2nd overall, having started 5th on the grid.
While the original ‘Red Pig’ was eventually used in aircraft testing leading to its destruction, a handful of faithful replicas have been built, including one by Mercedes-Benz. This example started as an accident-free, 1969 model year 300 SEL 6.3 and was restored to a ‘Red Pig’ replica by the Mercedes-Benz specialists at Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors in Böblingen, Germany. Purchased by James Goo Kim, CEO of D.Parts of South Korea, directly from Arthur Bechtel, it has travelled less than 800 km since its conversion.

"The Mercedes 220 SE coupé is a very fine engineering achievement. Not only does it provide fast and economical transports for four and their luggage, but outstanding roadholding and riding qualities make this a car which is a pleasure to drive hard, and one in which it is safe and comfortable to do so. Furthermore, it has superb brakes and a high standard of mechanical refinement." – Autocar.
Mercedes-Benz debuted four new models at the Frankfurt Show in 1959 - the 220 SEb among them - all of which shared the same basic unitary-construction bodyshell and all-round independent suspension. This new 220 family moved Mercedes-Benz's styling into the modern era; longer than their predecessors, these elegant newcomers featured a wider radiator shell, wrap-around windscreen, enlarged rear window and vertically stacked twin headlamps. The new 220 SEb retained the fuel-injected, single-overhead-camshaft engine of the previous 220 SE, though maximum power of the 2,195cc six was increased by five horsepower to 120bhp (DIN). Top speed was now 172km/h with 100km/h attainable in under 14 seconds.
Coupé and Cabriolet models appeared in 1960 and 1961 respectively, minus the already dated-looking tail fins of the saloon. More modern in style, the luxurious 220 SEb Coupé and Cabriolet were better appointed too, being equipped as standard with a rev counter, leather upholstery, and four-speed automatic transmission with floor-mounted gearchange lever. Girling servo-assisted front disc brakes were fitted from the start of production, a benefit not enjoyed by the saloon until 1962. By the time production ceased in October 1965, fewer than 17,000 220 SEb Coupé and Cabriolet models had been manufactured, of which only 2,729 were Cabriolets, and today these stylish and luxuriously equipped Grand Tourers are highly prized.
This superbly restored Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Cabriolet was delivered new in Germany. A matching-numbers example equipped with the desirable manual 'floor shift' gearbox, the Mercedes was sold new to a member of the United States' armed forces, who, it is presumed, took the car to the USA.
The present owner discovered this 220 SEb Cabriolet while searching for rare spare parts for his Mercedes-Benz 300 Adenauer Cabriolet D. Visiting the classic car fair in Stuttgart in March 2015, he became enchanted by this Mercedes 220 SEb cabriolet, which he considered to be the most perfectly restored vehicle on show. Delivered new in Germany, retaining matching numbers, and restored to concours standard, it met all of the perfectionist owner's exacting criteria and duly became part of his private collection on 1st March 2016. Since then, some 1,000 kilometres have been covered, including a recent trip to the Coppa Classic Concours in Belgium where it won the award for 'Best Restored Car'. Finished in the attractive colour combination of Burgundy with tan interior, and guaranteed to turn heads wherever it goes, this quite exceptional soft-top 4-seat Mercedes is well-documented and offered with all its original books; M-B Datakart; a selection of restoration photographs; and Belgian registration documents.
A Mercedes-Benz S-Class V126 photographed in Tianjin, Tianjin municipality, China.
A sadly poor abandoned S-Class parked close to one of its sister seen in a car market in south Tianjin.
The W/V126 is now very rare to see in China, mainly were scrapped or just abandoned like these because too old to be allowed in downtown.
Tomorrow Thursday, I'll will publish a little gift just before to take my flight for Seoul, South Korea. See you soon !

MERCEDES BENZ S320 CDI. Was showing 97,257 miles at last MOT 9 March 2022. In Bury scrap metal yard.
Rally Benz? Maybe? The answer to the question "what do you do with a seriously ratty W116 300SD?"
At any rate, it's certainly interesting! Noticed this in my neighborhood--not sure if it's a visitor or a new resident.

The 1980s saw a trend for bespoke customised 500SELs known unofficially as 1000SELs as they were considered twice the car compared with the factory 500SEL, and built mainly for the Middle East. This one is a Cullinan by Duchatelet and was owned from new by a royal family and kept in Paris until it was brought to the UK for sale in 2019.
