R-32, Wisconsin’s longest rustic road, offers a 37-mile journey through several county parks and the Peshtigo River State Forest. The route features multiple species of hardwoods and conifers, along with numerous granite boulders and outcroppings. R-32 also offers vistas of the Thunder and Peshtigo rivers.
Wisconsin's Rustic Roads system was created to preserve many of the state's scenic, lightly traveled country roads. Features of Rustic Roads include rugged terrain, native vegetation and wildlife, or open areas with agricultural vistas.

Villagers in India sometimes cook outside in a stove hand built with bricks and clay and fired by the tree trimmings and logs. Their pots and pans are also made of clay, and once broken go back to mother earth. A great way of saving the earth!

This sunny autumn path leads on to Hampstead heath just a ten minute walk from my place last year in november this path was covered in snow that was an early winter. A country of four seasons each one has its own character I have no favourites but I must admit autumn has the edge on colour.
Other name: Harrison Lake Snowshoe Cabin
Glacier County, MT
Part of Glacier National Park
Listed: 02/16/2001
The Harrison Lake Patrol Cabin is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under criterion A and C (history and architecture). It is significant on a local level for its association with the construction of over three dozen backcountry cabins erected throughout Glacier National Park during the 1920's and early 1930's. In design, the cabin reflects the philosophies of National Park Service rustic architecture throughout; its design and material produced a structure highly compatible with its unspoiled natural setting. Although representative in many respects of other Glacier backcountry structures, the cabin achieves distinction in its locally unusual use of square corner notching. The cabin is a component of the Minor Developed Areas property type as defined in the Glacier National Park Multiple Property Listing.
The cabin was constructed as an overnight stopping place for rangers on extended backcountry patrols from the Nyack Ranger Station approximately 15 miles to the south by trail. Little documentary evidence is available concerning the construction of the Harrison Lake Patrol Cabin. Park records show a 1928 construction date; however, log books of the Nyack Ranger Station indicate that the cabin was used for patrols as early as January, 1928, making an earlier construction date certain. The building survived the 1929 Half Moon fire which ravaged the area.
With the completion of construction of U.S. Highway 2 through Marias Pass in 1930, use of the trails in this area declined. The Nyack Ranger Station was abandoned in 1936 due to this decreased use. With the abandonment of Nyack Ranger Station, the use of Harrison Lake Patrol Cabin declined, but the cabin is still in use today both as a patrol cabin and by trail maintenance crews, the cabin has retained this pattern of significant historic use for over seventy years. The building is a reminder of the park's history of conservation management.

With no running water, no electricity, an outhouse, comfortable beds, and heated by a wood burning stove the Tonquin Valley Lodge could be best described as comfortable rustic living. The wood stove had to be restarted 3 or 4 times a night so the room varied from toasty to cold enough that you had to put on your winter jacket to restart the fire.
