Rum-running, or bootlegging, is the illegal business of smuggling alcoholic beverages where such transportation is forbidden by law. The term rum-running is more commonly applied to smuggling over water; bootlegging is applied to smuggling over land.
Smuggling usually takes place to circumvent taxation or prohibition laws within a particular jurisdiction.

Seit 2010 ist RTB Cargo ein treuer Kunde des Leasingunternehmens Railpool. Um das zu feiern, stellte Railcolor Design im Auftrag von RTB im Jahr 2020 eine, meiner Meinung nach, sehr gelungene Werbelok auf die Schienen. Die 186 423 erhielt eine Vollbeklebung und wirbt mit schönen Lila- und Blautönen sowie einem auffälligen Zahnraddesign und dem Slogan „Running like Clockwork“ für Präzision und Effizienz im Schienengüterverkehr. Am 11. Januar 2025 nutzte ich das gute Wetter nach meinem Praktikum und plante, nach Teningen-Mundingen zu fahren, um dort die EuroCity-Züge der Verbindung Interlaken/Basel–Dortmund/Hamburg zu fotografieren.
Kurz nachdem der EC 6 vorbeigefahren war, erhielt ich eine Sichtungsmeldung, dass die Lok 186 423 in Kürze bei mir sein müsste. Kaum hatte ich die Nachricht zu Ende gelesen, hörte ich bereits einen Güterzug herannahen, und tatsächlich kam die 186 423 in Sicht.

Are you born to be WILD? It's been a lot of fun on our Wild Horses adventure and working with participants on new techniques. Conveying motion in a photograph is difficult but powerful if done successfully. Panning is wonderful technique to add that dynamism and emotion. Shot at a very low shutter speed, panning gives a blurred background and an implied sense of movement. The real trick is keeping the head of your subject as sharp as you can. Not sure what WSOR train this was (maybe with the crew of L467 or L867?), but they arrived in Rock Springs along Ableman's Gorge around lunch time today after working in Reedsburg pulling a single boxcar hauled back into town.
I did not see a northbound train out of Madison this morning headed for Baraboo, as work on the Merrimac bridge looks like it's still continues during the day.

Bizarrely there's now too much water for my liking, the river running fast and high. Who gets excited about muddy brown? So in an attempt to make something from nothing I tried a little ME and then processed it for a softer effect. It makes me think of Japanese pen and ink studies. But it’s brown and muddy, and far less graceful.

Coming west past along the Ohio River in Maysville, Ky. is a loaded TTI coal train. The train will clear the manuel crossovers before backing east to the transloading facility. In the lead is one of the many schemes the TTI has used on its locomotives reflecting the lines ownership under CSX. April, 2009.
