The Black Glacier
An unpaved road climbs up to the Ventisquero Negro (Black Glacier), a reconstituted glacier full of sediment that gives it its namesake black pigmentation.
A new lake that is less than 100 years old at the bottom of the glacier has the same green hue as the Manso River and other bodies of water in the region.
Mount Tronador is pure ice at its peak, surrounded by hundred-meter cliffs that generate the rumbling avalanches and landslides.
The debris from the avalanches feed the lower lip of the glacier, giving it its dirty appearance.
The church at Vík is one of the most famous in Iceland as it is the centrepiece of the town Vík, a popular spot to visit on Iceland’s South Coast. The church is also the meeting place should there be any volcanic activity if the dreaded Katla should start rumbling.
It has even been predicted that in the case of Katla erupting, Víkurkirkja would be the only building to survive the subsequent flash floods from the melting of Iceland’s fourth largest glacier, Mýrdalsjökull.
The waves were breaking just before hitting the cliffs - better for the coastline, though not quite so dramatic for the photographer!
Rumbling thunder in the distance hastened my pace in a race to beat the approaching storm. One of those happy occasions where I actually won, making it to my front porch just ahead of its arrival.
The walk along the River Braan at The Hermitage..... This varied walk is a real Perthshire classic. It begins through the beautiful wooded glen of the Hermitage, complete with picturesque follies and attractive waterfalls. The route then continues to visit the dramatic Rumbling Bridge before a return through more open countryside with attractive views. The Hermitage is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
Finally i found some time to go through my latest photos, almost 1,5 month after I took them. It was a weekend with nice weather so I felt like Maine's shoreline was calling me. And I answered. After spending a day at Ogunquit's beach, I headed a little north to visit Kennenbunkport and walk around its cute little downtown area. As I was enjoying a slice of pizza from a local restaurant, I read about a Blowing Cave park, a place with rocky shore and crushing waves. Didn't have to think twice since I had all my photo gear with me. I devoured the pizza and 10 minutes later I was there, enjoying this magnificent place. The waves were rumbling below me as I could feel salty droplets on my face. The mansion you see in this photo, named Walker's Point Estate, is the summer retreat of Bush family. During Georg H.W. Bush presidency, this mansion was considered to be the Summer White house. The coastline is beautiful and the view along Ocean ave is very scenic.

As a storm rumbles over Powder River Basin in the background, an eastbound Burlington Northern coal train led by GE C30-7 No. 5109 rolls through Donkey Creek Junction east of Gillette, Wyoming, on July 6, 1994. The train is leaving the Orin Line and heading east on the Black Hills Subdivision.
Last weekend was our annual fishing and camping trip to Julianadorp. Contrary to expectations, we had great weather during the day. Thunderstorms were predicted for Friday evening, so when I heard rumbling we packed up. In retrospect it was not too bad, but the beach is not the place you want to be with a thunderstorm, especially with the long fishing rods. It only rained at night then. The second evening we also left quickly, another dark sky arrived. We were just in the car when the rain started, which then continued all evening and half the night. Safe and dry in the tent, that only sounds cozy. After two nights it was time to pack up and go home.
On my way through strong winds, the clouds were rumbling but the rain hadn't started yet. I thought for certain that I need to tie myself to the bench lest I'd be blown away like Mary Poppins, except she always knows what she is doing and where she is going. I took the last shot of Castle Gamburg and it took me countless times to get it in frame. Every time I had it right, the wind tucked at my arms and pushed my camera off to the side. It was as if he didn't want me to take this picture. Well, he never counted on my persistent nature. BIG GRIN.
I made it in time to the car before the rain started pouring down with a vengeance.
My gratitude for your visit, fave and comment.
Out in a local valley looking at the snow covered hills with the cattle feeding on newly placed hay, the lightly covering of snow and magical clouds caused a long look at natures beauty. Finally turned off the rumbling engine and listened to the silence before walking around for the best shot that would depict what was seen. A lonely ranch with just one occupant in a valley with the nearest neighbor miles away, cattle silently eating with snow covered hills in the backdrop and a beautiful misty playful sky. The only occupant stated the beauty and silence made up for the isolation. Would tend to agree…………
As early summer thunderstorms rumble over the Book Cliffs, a trio of Rio Grande SD40T-2 Tunnel Motors, Nos. 5349, 5390 and 5371, head westbound out of Mounds, Utah, with Union Pacific’s LJP45 “dirt train” local on the afternoon of June 25, 2004.
The river Devon runs from the Glen Devon reservoir initially running east towards Kinross before looping back on to flow west and become a tributary of the river Forth somewhere near Stirling. This shot is taken of a stretch of the river between Rumbling Bridge and the Crook of Devon.
I chose this time to shoot the river because we have had quite a lot of rainfall lately and the waters were swollen to provide a fairly dramatic flow. In fact as I stood taking this shot the rain fell so heavily that the river was swelling before me.

There's a creature in my closet
I can hear him rumbling 'round
The demons screaming in the distance
Creates such a humbling sound
The monster that's outside my window
He's like family to me now
The things that people are afraid of
Never let me down

A thunderstorm that sent us inside our vehicles has now passed, darkening Canyon Ferry Lake and hiding the Big Belt Mountains on the afternoon of July 7, 2021. New ties line the right-of-way over Winston Hill signaling a system tie gang will soon be doing their work. Montana Rail Link sure does invest a great deal on it’s infrastructure, which always sees a good amount of BNSF tonnage, like this westbound coal train climbing the hill led by GE ET44C4 No. 3806.
This blue jay was enjoying a short sunny break between bouts of heavy rain. By evening we had another inch in the rain gauge and I can hear another round approaching with thunder rumbling in the distance now after dark.
A family ice fishing watches and waves at a BNSF grain train rumbling over Bridge 55 at Trout Creek, Montana, on the afternoon of February 5, 2022. Not far away on the edge of open water, a quintet of Canada Geese float along in a line, mimicking the eastbound train.
Lots of storms rumbling through lately and sometimes they pose for a photo before moving on. Have a great weekend my friends.
Eaglehawk Neck is a narrow isthmus that connects the Tasman Peninsula with the Forestier Peninsula, and hence to mainland Tasmania, Australia. A township settlement in the same region is also called Eaglehawk Neck. Locally known as the Neck, the isthmus itself is around 400 metres long and under 30 metres wide at its narrowest point. The area features rugged terrain and several unusual geological formations. These include the Tessellated Pavement, an area of flat rock that looks to be manmade but is in fact formed by erosion. A short walk further via Lufra Cove leads to Clyde Island, accessible for crossings at low tide, which sits at the northern entry to Pirates Bay. The island hosts two grave sites, and a rumbling blow hole cleaves the island. Eaglehawk Neck is a well-known local holiday destination. On the eastern side, a beach that stretches around Pirates' Bay is a popular surfing area. In summer the population rises as people return to their holiday homes. 29052

A mile above its confluence with the larger Tay, the River Braan tumbles in three foaming streaks over the Black Linn Falls: the climax of a noisy stretch of burn starting further upstream at Rumbling Bridge. The beauty of this spot is enhanced by a Georgian folly, built in 1757 for the 2nd Duke of Atholl and dramatically sited just below the waterfall. Its now under National Trust for Scotland ownership, free to visit and open daily – each October, a backdrop of russet leaves makes what is already a beguiling viewpoint even more magnificent. If autumn colours (or waterfalls) are your thing, put it on your shortlist… or for something more ambitious, extend your exploration to take in Pine Cone Point.

The Bridge of Craigisla carries the B954 road over the River Isla at the point where the river enters highland country and begins its ascent up Glen Isla.
The bridge is situated just under a mile into the county of Angus from the border with Perth & Kinross. It is well known for being the stop off point for travellers seeking out the Reekie Linn waterfall which is situated a few hundred yards
Ever since the 2018 storm that dropped giant hail and destroyed my roof - along with every roof in the village - I get slightly uneasy when the sky takes on ominous proportions. You never know what it might unleash. Our license plates read "Land Of Living Skies", and they got that right.
Last summer this storm front found us. I saw it approaching and drove to a local hilltop about 5 km north of town to catch the great, sweeping, swirling, turbulent, ominous, threatening beauty passing overhead. It's difficult not to feel vulnerable when you are the tallest thing for miles around and dark clouds are beginning to crackle with electrical energy.
In this frame, the front is moving right to left, pushing out the last remnants of a sunny morning and bringing the only rain we would receive in July. You can see Hwy 4 at the bottom, and in the distance, just below the horizon, those little white things are the houses of Val Marie. One of them is mine. With the sky growling and rumbling above, this was the last shot I made before racing for home.
An hour later, the storm had passed and the sun reappeared. The calm, blue sky looked like it had always been calm and blue.
